Pleasanton Mothers Club is partnering with PUSD to raise funds for 'Launch Kits' for graduating foster and McKinney Vento (homeless) students in Pleasanton Unified School District. These kits include luggage, a yearbook, a chromebook, and air pods to help students as they transition to college or life outside of high school. The Amador and Foothill PTA, PPIE, and the Assistance League of Amador Valley are all committing to support these kits, but the funding is still short on being able to fulfill them. We still are in need of $750 to buy the remaining chromebooks for our graduating seniors.
This is a great way to contribute back to our local community and help Pleasanton students in need who can greatly utilize these launch kits to set their future on the right foot. Please consider donating via Venmo. We are looking to secure all funding by October 21 to purchase all items for our graduates. Please contact Carley Amigone directly if you have any questions the launch kits or about the support PUSD provides to our foster and McKinney Vento students.
Why these items?
Luggage— often times foster youth and homeless students are often in transition with limited items. Having new luggage so they can pack their items to move and start their post-high school journey is an identified area of need.
Computers- it is a way to set students up for success in college or helping to find employment. It is a tool that so many of us have and don’t realize how expensive they are to own, but part of everyday life. PUSD students have access to computers but need this support to continue post graduation.
AirPods are identified by so many students as a way to block out noise in their home environments and is also a tool for self care. Music is healing.
Finally, yearbooks are a way to connect students that are in transition to a place. Foster youth in California who have been in the system for 2 or more years— 44% have had 3 or more placements and 15% have experienced 5 or more placements. So an opportunity to capture this moment in time.
