Hi sewists,
I have a strange request. I am looking for cotton masks, no nose wire for a small adult face, with dinosaurs or totoro on them. Anyone? Thanks in advance!
Good morning! I have a practitioner looking for kids masks for a 9 year old girl. Preferably with adjustable elastics. Thanks in advance!!
Does anyone in this group use olyfun? I've got about 40 yds of it to unload inexpensively. I bought it during the beginning of the pandemic and I have no use for it. I have 20 yd of pink 10 yd of dark red and almost 10 yd of purple.
Thanks in advance!
🧵The Faces Behind Mask Making🧵
This is the face of the person that made the mask you are wearing. Meet Kim!
Kim Kuchon moved to Thornton, NH a year and half ago with her husband David and their 6 year old son Kobe. Kim had been a high school art teacher and a fabric artist before becoming primarily a stay-at-home-mom.
💗🧵
After closely following the pandemic spread across the world, she knew our realities would be changing for awhile. On March 21 she made her first fabric mask for a friend in healthcare who was asking for help and has never turned back. While juggling remote learning with her kindergartener and having her husband’s office move into their home she has managed to find time to make over 200 masks and sent them as far off as California before finding Pemi Sew the Curve Flat.
Finding a local group like PVSCF was a lifeline. “I was making these masks and knew I could ramp up production but I didn’t know who to get them to. PVSCF facilitated making the connections with businesses and healthcare providers locally and it gave me the ability to focus on one thing: making masks”. She now sews for the local community as well as for friends and family who request masks. She could not imagine not helping and is happy that her sewing skills can make some difference in these unprecedented times.

Do you know Tamara? Tamara is an incredible ceramicist and artist who was brought to the Plymouth area in 1988 when she came to work at Rockywold Deephaven Camp during college break. She fell deeply in love with our community and decided to never leave. Tamara now lives in Campton where she recently bought a house with an incredible workshop for her to create in!
🧵💗🧵
Tamara comes from a long line of educators who believe in the notion that “one should leave the world a better place than you found it.” This belief has inspired her creativity and pushed her to explore new ways to create a better world, like the masks she has been sewing. Sewing is a therapeutic act for her and over the years she’s taught herself some skills beyond her home ec class. Today she gets to flex those sewing skills and make a positive impact on her community through art.
🧵💗🧵
Tamara is an original member of our group and has been sewing for us since the beginning. We are so grateful to have her knowledge and perseverance in our group. She has been so help, kind and uplifting to others and we are indebted to her for her selflessness.Thank you Tamara!

Do you know Patty? Patty is a resident of Rumney where she lives with her husband and their adorable dogs. Patty is a mother, a wife and an all around cool lady!
🧵💗🧵
Patty is a highly empathetic and kind sewist, who under estimates her skills in sewing and often downplays her natural talent. Without Patty's help we would not have been able to create 4k masks for our community and beyond.Every masks she has created has helped someone in need.
🧵💗🧵
When asked why she started making masks she answered, "I started making masks because it is something I could do to help. It feels good to dust off my rusty sewing skills. I inherited my Mom's machine and until now I hadn't done much sewing. I was drafted to make masks!" Thank you Patty, your presence in our group is so important to us and we are grateful to have you in our community. You are a truly a gem.

Meet Abigail! She lives in Plymouth with her two daughters; 10 & 13, and husband. Abigail is a paraprofessional supporting students at Plymouth Elementary in addition to being the Treasurer of the PTA & a Girl Scout Leader. When she is not creating, Abigail enjoys hiking, photography & boating.
🧵💗🧵
Abigail joined our group on the third day and has found deep satisfaction in helping others, however she can. With so many requests to fill, Abigail found it in herself to dust off her machine and get to making!
🧵💗🧵
During these challenging times Abigail took it upon herself to take action and not let the uncertain nature of society keep her making an impact on history. Thank you for all you've done Abigail! When called to action and you helped answer that call, we could never thank you enough.

Yesterday, Pemi Valley was commissioned to make 1,500 masks for the school children in our community. People have been asking me why our GoFundMe goal is $10,000, well this is why. It costs roughly $1 to make a mask and when considering the specialty fabrics we may need to use for children's masks, the budget is looking a little more lofty than we anticipated. If you are in a position to donate to our cause; even if it's $5, please we need all the support we can get! Every dollar donated makes it possible for a sewist to access mask making materials!

Sew The Curve Flat is a network of volunteers who’s goal is to organize and aggregate the grassroots efforts of Home Sewists and match them with organizations and at risk communities in their area to provide Supplemental PPE in a crisis capacity. We want to provide the most current Best Practices, Most effective Patterns and a material list.
We are doing this because orders for standard/disposable masks are on long back-orders, due to both demand and supply chain issues. Hospitals across the country are reporting the same supply concerns.
Please visit our website for comprehensive pattern information, to volunteers, request PPE or donate

According to the CDC, fabric masks are a crisis response option when other supplies have been exhausted.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/ppe-strategy/face-masks.html
“HCP use of homemade masks:
In settings where facemasks are not available, HCP might use homemade masks (e.g., bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, homemade masks are not considered PPE, since their capability to protect HCP is unknown. Caution should be exercised when considering this option. Homemade masks should ideally be used in combination with a face shield that covers the entire front (that extends to the chin or below) and sides of the face.”
