Common Man for Ukraine and our Polish Rotary partners' monthly 3-week-long trauma counseling program in Zakopane, Poland, continues its vital work! July's Children of Ukraine Health Retreat session welcomes 33 children whose Ukrainian soldier-fathers were either killed or are missing defending their homeland.

Facilitated by an incredible team of teachers, counselors, and doctors, the Retreat helps these Ukrainian children learn vital coping skills, receive individual and group counseling, and form a community of support among peers.

Wydarzeniem tym chcemy podkreślić dziesięciolecie trwania rotariańskiego programu Здоров'я Дітей України / Zdrowie Dzieci Ukrainy, który od 2014 roku pomaga łagodzić traumę wojenną dzieci żołnierzy poległych w wyniku agresji Federacji Rosyjskiej na Ukrainę.

🩵💛 Orkiestrą będzie dyrygowała Magdalena Pawlisz Conductor. Ta utalentowana dyrygentka posiadająca tytuł Doktora Sztuk Muzycznych i Magistra Zarządzania Kulturą, to artystka koncertująca i odnosząca sukcesy w Polsce i za granicą. Dyrygenturę studiowała w krakowskiej Akademii Muzycznej im. K. Pendereckiego, berlińskim Uniwersytecie Sztuk oraz w Konserwatorium Szwajcarii Włoskiej w Lugano. Współpracowała z operami w Würzburgu i Göteborgu, z filharmoniami w Neubrandenburgu i Częstochowie, czy z festiwalami w Salzburgu i Lwowie. W wiedeńskim archiwum klasztoru minorytów odkryła Mszę C-dur Franciszka Lessla, którą opracowała i wykonała w ramach przewodu doktorskiego. Dzięki Rotary Magdalena Pawlisz wzięła udział w muzycznej wymianie młodzieżowej w San Diego – od tamtej pory podąża ścieżką muzyki, a przy tym z satysfakcją wspiera rotariańskie projekty dedykowane dzieciom.

Ukraine's children have been the target of Russia's aggression for far too long.

For years, children have been kidnapped and removed from their native Ukraine. This week, a Russian missile struck Ukraine's largest children's hospital in Kyiv, the AP reports.

Children must be protected from this horrific war. They have been through too much already. We must all continue to work to ensure their safe future. Common Man for Ukraine remains dedicated to that cause.

COPECARDs are special age-appropriate tools that present coping skills for managing stress and trauma. These colorful and engaging designs make the skills easy to learn and use. Common Man for Ukraine remains a special initiative of the Plymouth Rotary Foundation (NH), working to deliver humanitarian aid and trauma counseling programming to Ukrainian children of war through our partnerships with Rotarians worldwide and public and private fundraising here in America.

Last Sunday, members of the mission committee at the Union Congregational Church in Hebron, New Hampshire, presented Common Man for Ukraine with a check for $12,353!

Co-founders Alex Ray and Lisa Mure were joined by key volunteer Ed Van Dorn to accept the deeply generous donation that resulted from the church's two locally held fundraising events.

All of these donations, large and small, represent acts of love. Thank you to the Union Congregational Church in Hebron and all who contributed to their efforts!

Father's Day, celebrated yesterday, takes on a special and layered meaning for our programs for Ukrainian children.

In her new essay on Medium, Common Man for Ukraine co-founder Susan Mathison writes about her personal story and the parallels to the children of war she now helps.

"One of our programs provides 3-week residential trauma counseling programs to children whose fathers have been killed during the invasion. Using certified Ukrainian child psychologists, we offer a broad spectrum of art and play therapy, outdoor activities, music, drama, coping skill-building, and network-building. We invite the kids to write and share their “big feelings.” We offer them an open-ended prompt to write a letter to President Zelensky.

Fatherless on Father’s Day: What Ukrainian kids teach Pres. Zelensky and me I had mastered all the other holidays. A widow with sons, two and seven years old, I learned how to put up the Christmas tree by myself.
