Yoga offers many benefits for healthy aging: improved muscles, bones, and balance; better organ function; and tools for relaxation and stress release. With appropriate support, anyone can benefit – no one is too stiff, too weak, or too damaged.
The 3 sessions will revolve around a simple sequence that you can do at home, but each session will emphasize a different aspect of the practice.
Nov. 4 – Movement and breath
Nov. 18 – Outer body – Muscles and bones
Dec. 2 – Inner body – organ health
Besides learning the correct actions for the sequence, you will learn how to modify the poses for your personal needs. We will incorporate basic yoga philosophy as well as some anatomy and physiology so you gain a good understanding of what we’re doing and why. You will learn whether you would benefit most from a regular beginning class or a gentle class If you choose to continue with regular classes.

We're so excited to have Chris Saudek with us this weekend! In this 3-day workshop, Chris will help students connect body parts, actions within poses and between poses. She will teach how to develop and understand more complex poses through their relationship to less complex ones. In connecting the body, mind and breath throughout, students will gain a better understanding of how to connect with a deeper Self.
Chris is known for her methodical and practical sequencing and her inspiring presence. Thanks to her early training with BKS Iyengar in the medical classes, Chris is very adept at modifying poses for students, understanding their specific needs, and helping each student to reach new levels of physical and mental ease and awareness. Her love of teaching and compassion for each individual is apparent.
Chris is certified in the Iyengar method at Level IV and has taught workshops at many other studios in the US, Canada, and internationally. She has also helped train dozens of teachers in her over 40 years of teaching. With the help of Geeta Iyengar, Chris made the 6 laminated sequences that address practices for restorative, pregnancy, minor back issues, high blood pressure, menstruation, and headache, as well as published Yoga for Pregnancy. She is also responsible for putting together the rope booklet, Yoga Karunta.
Martina helps Victoria lift the waist, lumbar and hips up equally on both sides in Adho Mukha Vrksasana.

We have new and returning classes this term. Join Jane for her Beginning Yoga class this Monday at 10:00am - an Introduction for beginning students or students new to the Iyengar tradition. Emphasis is on learning the fundamentals of alignment with standing poses that stretch and strengthen the body to achieve balance. Basic postures are taught with special attention to breath.

Jane demonstrates a progression of poses to approach a full Ustrasana. Keep the front of the thighs pressing against the chair. Use the hands on the chair to help lift the torso up in the preparatory poses. This asana stretches and tones the entire spine.

Annie uses the trestle for stability and a strong torso opening in Ardha Chandrasana. This works well with the leg on the lower bar of the trestle too.
Madeleine practices a supported inversion with her hands holding the knots of the upper ropes, legs against the wall, and her head just off the floor. Be sure to get instruction and spotting if you want to try this in the studio.

Join Nicky in these 3 sessions, where we will explore a variety of poses aimed at strengthening (and lengthening) not only the back but also the abdomen and legs, with the added benefit of walking through life with better posture - all to keep your back feeling great!
