Join us for a conversation about community and what it means to create the conditions for both collective repair and collective healing. Susan Raffo, author of Liberated to the Bone, will be reading some pieces from her new book and supporting our conversation.
Liberated to the Bone, published in the Emergent Strategy Series by AK Press, addresses the intersections between healing our physical bodies and healing our social relations which are shaped by violence.
Bodyworker and cultural worker Susan Raffo addresses intergenerational trauma, social justice, organizing, and how all of these things are relevant to our bodies.
The book illuminates three different approaches to healing: ending violence, the significance of being rooted in the present, and creating the conditions to address unfinished histories and generational trauma.
By showing how these approaches are intricately connected—physically and emotionally—Raffo interrupts the traumatic binaries of the political and spiritual, the physical and intellectual, and healing and organizing.
The event will also be a fundraiser for Resolutions Northwest.

WE'RE LIVE TODAY FOR GIVING TUESDAY!!!
Join us as we feature our T&C team and the systems change work and cohorts they've been facilitating throughout this year so far!
Looking for training and consultation services to put your equity initiatives into action? We have the team for you!
Our T&C team focuses on supporting leaders in making
systemic change to policies and practices and in developing
their personal capacity to lead for racial justice.
And while some orgs use a one-size-fits-all approach in their work, we don't! We provide customized packages to fit the goals of each client! Sometimes this may include:
Racial Equity Audit | Assessment of themes and rec. actions.
Executive Coaching | Inquiry-based approach for personal dev.
Flexible Consultation | For formal & informal leaders.
Supportive Feedback | Input in policy change, leadership, etc.
Employee Engagement | Development and facilitation of BIPOC affinity and white learning spaces.
Project Support | Facilitation of dialogues, conflict management, training, etc.
Aside from our work with community partners, we host an array of workshops and cohorts that focus on skills and community building!
In Artful Facilitation, we help leaders understand, design for, and manage group dynamics by grounding their work in themes of racial equity, connection, trauma-informed practices and clarity of purpose!
When it comes to cohorts, we host Navigating White Supremacy Culture: For BIPOC Changemakers, to help Black and non-Black POC explore strategies to survive and thrive in the workplace.
We do this to support BIPOC folx who feel like they may not be getting support internally from their org, build boundaries around doing racial equity work, and building community with other folx who may be experiencing similar things.
That's it with our Training & Consultation team! Whether you're wanting to sustain our T&C program through a donation or even a potential client referral to our team, we appreciate it either way!
We're 1 DAY AWAY from our Giving Tuesday launch!
Today we'd like to feature our Restorative Justice (RJ) team and the initiatives they're working on through this year! Continue reading below to learn more about the exciting work they're doing!
Our RJ initiatives at Resolutions Northwest have proven valuable to our work with community partners in shifting cultures from punitive measures to processes focused on healing relationships and building more inclusive communities!
While some may perceive RJ as a reactive tool in addressing harm & conflict and holding accountability, we've helped folx understand that it's also an opportunity to build, maintain, and repair relationships to form healthier and more supportive communities!
Through our work, we facilitate dialogue, workshops, restorative processes, collaborative activities, and much more, and tailor our programming to the needs of the K-12 schools, colleges & universities, orgs, and providers for houseless people that we collaborate with!
In addition to our contract work, we also host a range of cohorts!
With our School Community RJ cohort, we connect with educators and school staff on building strategies to create equitable spaces and supporting them in facilitating restorative circles for their students.
Our RJ & Equity-Informed Mediation cohort serves as an affinity space for BIPOC individuals to build their RJ and mediation skills, on a personal and professional level!
And there you have it! There's a bit about our RJ team and the wonderful work they're doing educational institutions across Oregon and Washington and local non-profits!
As always, thank you for taking the time to read through our newsletter and learn more about what we're up to and hope to continue doing year after year!
Make a gift directly through our donate page on our site!
Warmly,
Our Team @ Resolutions Northwest

We'd like to give a warm welcome and introduce you to our new Video Production Specialist, Spencer!
He is an interdisciplinary artist and educator. Born with a big imagination, he creates videos, lesson plans, games, and art that reflects the full breadth of the Black imagination. Creating his own after-school art program for BIPOC youth, he provides resources for young people to express themselves to the fullness of their personhood.
Spencer joined our team back in mid-September and we are so happy to have him! Since joining our marketing team, he's contributed some great ideas on new video content and projects that we have planned for this next year. Stay tuned for it!
Anyways, enjoy this little clip of Spencer, and watch the full video on our YouTube channel to learn more about him, his hobbies and interests, and the work he'll be doing with us!
Check out some of our other staff intro videos as well!
We've all witnessed and experienced the huge shift in the corporate and non-profit world, where specifically white-led companies and organizations threw up their form of DEI statements / initiatives.
And while many of us internally (as employees) and externally (as community members) saw this happening, we've seen none to very systemic change. And while there may have been an increase in recruitment of historically-excluded employees, retention of them didn't really happen. The policies and practices, themselves, also had very little impact on the communities and people they said they would center.
So with that, while the intentions of your org / executive leadership, may have been good, what is happening now is still negatively affecting those most impacted. And after that first step of recognition, you must then listen to your BIPOC employees and involve them in the decision-making processes and conversations when reforming your practices and policies.
So if you're in a leadership role as a board member, executive leader, or manager, sign up for this workshop to build some skills to kickstart this process and reach out to our team for a 30-min consultation to see if we'd be a good fit to make that happen!
Ohh the good ole holidays!
For most of us, we intend to use these as a time for rest, to collect ourselves, and self-care. And while some of us do, we also use it to connect and maintain our relationship with friends, community, and our family through meals and convos!
However, some of us also know and have experienced that one person at a party, or those family members who give out microaggressions like it's their form of a gift or say outright racist stuff. And when you know deep down it doesn't sit right with you, you're either unsure of how to redirect that behavior without escalating the situation or are told to stay quiet because that's just how Uncle Jim is.
Well guess what, the holidays are the prime opportunity to interrupt racism! Whether you don't have the skills to navigate these conversations or do, but have been too nervous to destroy your relationship with that person, this is the workshop for you!
Learn different ways of navigating these conversations and interrupting different forms of racism from our facilitators and explore with other community members on what they've found has been successful for them! Figure out how to interrupt racism and preserve your relationship with that person or even establish boundaries with that person on how you see your relationship moving forward!

Being a parent/caregiver of a child or children and managing their daily needs along with navigating your own responsibilities is already a challenging task in itself.
And having discussions and engaging them in discussion about race, identity, and anti-racism can be even more-so, at times, and can sometimes leave you feeling confused, unsure, and much more.
As BIPOC parents and/or caregivers these conversations come more naturally due to our lived experience of having to navigate through a world that sees us differently. And although we may have that experience, the discussion itself can still be difficult.
For white parents and/or caregivers, these conversations are a must. These are discussions that need to be had and that they should be prepared to understand. It is also an opportunity for you to learn and solidify your own understanding when engaging with children.
This workshop is a learning space for parents, guardians, and caregivers of young children (0-Elementary school aged) who are interested in engaging children in honest conversations about race.
In this workshop you will have the opportunity to explore data around the importance of talking about race with young children, reflect on your own experiences and identity, practice starting these conversations and meet like-minded folks who are excited to live into their values of being an anti-racist parent/caregiver.
We all know conflict can be a challenging thing to explore no matter who it's with and where it happens.
Sometimes we don't know how to manage or resolve it. But we know this one thing for sure... it doesn't feel good and we know why it's important to not leave it untouched.
From kids in elementary school to students in high school, or colleagues/employees in the workplace, or the clients, people, and communities we engage with, we all experience it!
But depending on who it is, sometimes we have an easier time communicating those conflicts and feelings, and at other times, it can be a lot more difficult.
And it's okay! You don't need to have all the answers or be "perfect" in how you approach it. All that matters is that you get the practice, learn the skills, and have the tools when helping others manage their conflict.
Though, one thing you need to recognize is that people's identities, positions of power, and so much more play a huge role in the conflict that arises and takes place in your spaces.
With our Equity-Informed Basic Mediation Training, you spend roughly ~35-40 hrs with our Certified Mediators, leaders in community, and more in learning the foundational pillars of becoming an equity-informed mediator.
Sign up through the link in our bio and reach out if you have any questions!
Full fee for this workshop is $1200; thought we also offer a sliding scale payment. If you are coming from an org or business with development funds, we ask that you pay the full fee.

As facilitators and group leaders, with the stress and time that comes with juggling everyday responsibilities in our jobs, at times, it can be challenging to:
1) Explore how racism, white supremacy, and anti-Blackness show up in group dynamics and throughout workplace culture and...
2) How to interrupt it, dismantle it, and unlearn it on an individual and systemic level.
However, it is part of our responsibility to create spaces and a culture that transforms those groups dynamics and achieves a better outcome for all.
With Artful Facilitation, you have the potential to do just that! We help you to understand and design for and manage group dynamics by grounding your work in themes of racial equity, connection, trauma-informed practices, and clarity of purpose.
Join our Training & Consultation team, for self-paced online work, discussions, practice listening and receiving feedback, Q&A time, role playing, and more!
