VOLUNTEER FOR NATIONAL HISTORIC MARKER DAY 2024
Sign up to volunteer for National Historic Marker Day 2024!
On Friday, April 26, join communities across the country for a day of service and history. Help to beautify your community by giving back and cleaning local historical markers.
Markers play an important role in our communities by helping to educate the public, encourage pride of place and promote tourism. Without regular care, contaminants such as road salt, pollen and dust can cause deterioration. By cleaning markers, we can keep them in good condition so they can be enjoyed now and by future generations.
That's where National Historic Marker Day comes in! Interested
volunteers can sign up to participate and learn more about this year's fun and family-friendly celebration on the official National Historic Marker Day (https://www.wgpfoundation.org/national-historic-marker-day/) webpage.
REGISTER TO VOLUNTEER
Registered participants will receive National Historic Marker Day
stickers, be acknowledged on the Pomeroy Foundation website, and will be eligible for a special giveaway after submitting photos from your cleaning project.
Email your photos to us at [email protected] and post them on social media using the hashtag . We'll be posting a photo gallery featuring volunteers.
Register now and see you on April 26! On our website https://www.wgpfoundation.org/national-historic-marker-day/, download the volunteer kit, which includes a guide to cleaning markers, information about planning a service project, lesson plans and tips for publicizing your efforts.
Need help locating a marker in your area? Go to The Historical Marker Database or our comprehensive map. Keep in mind, volunteers should comply with local safety and parking regulations, as well as seek permission when planning their marker cleaning project.

My name is Nicholas Roy and I am a board member at EVUltimate.org [1] and a homeschool parent.
Reaching out to you today to share this free sporting opportunity for homeschool/rural youth in our community [2]. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Here are some details about EVU and this event:
* Emerald Valley Ultimate provides the greater Eugene community with structured ultimate frisbee at the youth level. Our middle and highschool programs focus on fun, inclusive play and encourages kids to lead through spirit and sportsmanship. With scholarships available, one of our primary goals is making Ultimate accessible to all who wish to play!
* Students can join one of several teams in the Eugene area, learn the sport, train, practice and compete with their team. (With enough participation we hope to pop up new teams in surrounding areas)
* With that in mind we are trying to grow and reach homeschool and rural kids and are putting on a free event to introduce the sport to these communities.
* Event will be March 23, 11-2 in Eugene and sign up is free.
Thank you very much and feel free to reach out if you have any
questions.

The Northwest Civil War Council is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, dedicated to educating the public through Living History presentations of the American Civil War. Living History is our hobby and is one of the most dynamic mediums available to those in pursuit of the past. Our members wear authentically reproduced clothing, utilize black powder weapons, cook
over open fires and sleep in canvas tents while they participate in battle reenactments and military or civilian life.
On May 17-19, 2024 we will have an event at Cheadle Lake in Lebanon, OR. It will be FREE to the public. May 17 is our school day, there will be presentations from 10am to 3pm, finishing with a skirmish in which the students may participate if they wish.
This is a great opportunity for the students to learn history in a fun and exciting environment. The students can walk around the camps, watch and at times even participate in the demonstrations.
We are all volunteers and overwhelmingly do this to educate and engage the public, especially our students.
Students that didn’t think they liked history have found an interest they didn’t realize. As one said, “It’s like being in a play, but you don’t have to memorize any lines.”
If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me.

2024 Oregon Kid Governor Classroom Registration Open
Oregon's Kid Governor® program (ORKG) is a statewide civics program for 5th graders supported through Oregon Secretary of State's office. Timed to coincide with Election Day in November, every school and home school in Oregon is eligible to enter one 5th grader to run in a statewide election that other 5th graders will vote in. Classrooms can vote in the election, nominate a classmate to run for office or do both! Oregon's Kid Governor nominees work with their classmates to create a campaign video about why they want to be Kid Governor, their leadership skills, a community issue they want to address, and a 3-point plan that will help 5th graders across Oregon make a difference in their communities.
Now entering its seventh year, ORKG continues to be an outstanding opportunity for developing leadership skills as students are immersed in a meaningful civics experience. There is no cost, and the program provides a full classroom curriculum and information for parents whose students choose to run. Students gain valuable knowledge of our state government, how to act through civic participation, and how people of all ages can choose to participate in our democratic society.
Class Registration
Classroom registration for the 2024 Oregon Kid Governor Election is now open! The deadline for nominating a candidate and submitting their campaign video is 5 p.m., October 26, 2023. If your 5th grade class only wants to vote in the Kid Governor election, you have until 5 p.m. on November 6th to register.
Learn more about the program at or.kidgovernor.org. Lesson plans and other materials will be shared with you once you register but we're glad to send them along in advance if you would like to preview them!
To learn about all the exciting opportunities available to Oregon's next Kid Governor, check out past Kid Governor, Taneesh Garg's blog. The current kid governor Lea's blog is here.
Please don't hesitate to contact them if you have any questions about this exciting opportunity. We can't wait to see all the fun videos your students will be creating. Best of luck to all the candidates!
