Congratulations, we are honored to have you and your brother and sister paramedic/firefighters serving our community!
Have a safe and happy 4th of July!!
We will conduct our monthly outdoor warning siren test tomorrow at 10 AM CDT.
Are you a small business, small agricultural cooperative, or a small business engaged in aquaculture? Have you suffered an Economic Injury due to the drought? The deadline for SBA Working Capital Loans in Alabama is July 22nd!
ATLANTA – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is reminding small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations that July 22 is the filing deadline for federal working capital loans for losses due to drought that began on Nov. 14, 2023.
The declaration includes Bibb, Calhoun, Chilton, Etowah, Greene, Hale, Shelby, St. Clair, and Talladega counties; and the contiguous counties of: Autauga, Blount, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Dekalb, Elmore, Jefferson, Marengo, Marshall, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa in Alabama.
Under this declaration, the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program is available to eligible farm-related and nonfarm-related entities that suffered financial losses as a direct result of this disaster. Apart from aquaculture enterprises, SBA cannot provide disaster loans to agricultural producers, farmers, and ranchers. Nurseries are eligible to apply for economic injury disaster loans for losses caused by drought conditions.
The loan amount can be up to $2 million with interest rates of 4% for small businesses and 3.25% for private nonprofit organizations, with terms up to 30 years. The SBA determines eligibility based on the size of the applicant, type of activity and its financial resources. Loan amounts and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition. These working capital loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, account payable, and other bills that could have been paid had the disaster not occurred. The loans are not intended to replace lost sales or profits.
Applicants may apply online and receive additional disaster assistance information at SBA.gov/disaster. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email [email protected] for more information on SBA disaster assistance. For people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, please dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services.
Submit completed loan applications to SBA no later than July 22, 2024.
Maxwell Air Force Base to conduct exercise "Op Pacific Sword" June 20-21
The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at Maxwell Air Force Base will be conducting a training exercise, "Op Pacific Sword," June 20th and 21st. This exercise will take place from 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days.
As part of the exercise, the base will be utilizing the Air Raid siren intermittently throughout the day. The community is advised that these sirens are part of the planned training activities and not an actual emergency. Residents and businesses in the vicinity of Maxwell AFB should not be alarmed by the sounds of the siren.
"Op Pacific Sword" is a critical exercise designed to enhance the readiness and operational capabilities of our cadets. It provides an opportunity for them to experience realistic training scenarios, which are essential for their development and future roles in the Air Force.
We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the local community during this time. For any questions or concerns, please contact the Maxwell AFB Public Affairs Office at (334) 953-2014.
Prattville Police Department to hold active shooter training the week of June 17th.
The Prattville Police Department will be holding Active Shooter training evolutions at the former Whitney Bank location downtown on Main Street throughout the week of 06-17-2024. This crucial and intensive training for our officers will be held approximately between 7am to 5 pm each day. These events will involve units responding to near-real situations and focus on identifying and eliminating active threats as fast and effectively as possible in order to minimize injury and loss of life. During these events, there may be use of lights and limited noise for simulation purposes in and around the building, as well as simulated gunfire, which should be no cause for alarm if seen or heard (just a heads up, Uncle Mick's Cajun Market & Cafe). Training safety personnel will of course be on sight to ensure all participants and all surrounding areas are safe.
Our Department and our officers take this training very seriously, in hopes that we never have to use it but are ready to respond in a moments notice, if necessary. In order to ensure a safe training environment, these events will NOT be open to the public and signs will be posted on an all entrances for No Entry. We ask that those not involved do not approach the area of the building or attempt to enter. This training also will NOT interrupt Main St. vehicle traffic or the sidewalk on Main St. or Tichnor St.
We will conduct the outdoor siren test at 10:00 AM today. The test was postponed last week due to the overcast conditions.
While we aren't looking for any severe weather possibilities, though Sunday evening is questionable, we will experience some of our extreme summer heat and humidity. Stay hydrated and if you are headed to the coast they are expecting a higher risk for rip currents so watch the flags.
Just a reminder we will be testing the outdoor siren system at 10:00 AM CDT on Wednesday of this week.

Severe weather is possible this afternoon and into the evening. In areas that did not experience strong storms this morning, there is plenty of energy. If a storm develops this afternoon, it could easily become severe. Keep an eye on the weather and updates through the day!
