10 years ago I had the sad honor of working "looter patrol" in the evacuated town of Yarnell. Officers from all over Arizona were on hand to assist Y.C.S.O. in protecting the town after the Yarnell Fire tragedy.

On June 30, 2013, 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots Wildland Fire Crew were killed doing their duty to protect lives and property. 30 structures were lost, but no citizens of Yarnell were lost that day. The Hotshots gave their lives so that others could live.

While working the detail I took this photo: a singed fire hydrant, burnt Manzanita trees, and melted scrub cactus (in the Glen Ilah neighborhood of Yarnell).

It was a profound and humbling experience to be in the proximity of such bravery and self-sacrifice.

To paraphrase the words of a famous soldier, it is wrong to mourn the men who died---rather, we should thank God that such men lived.

The Yavapai College Health & Wellness team is hosting FREE Basic and Intermediate Motivational Interviewing training at the Y.C. Prescott campus, Monday August 28th and Tuesday August 29th.

This excellent training will be facilitated by Denise Beagley, Associate Director of Crisis and Justice Systems at Banner University Health Plans.

Learn the skills to communicate more meaningfully and effectively!

Certificates of attendance/completion will be provided.

Prescott Valley Police Chief Bob Ticer and I at the YavapaiCollege-MATFORCE Drug-Alcohol-Wellness Symposium at the Y.C. Prescott Campus, June 1st and 2nd.

Two GREAT days of training with 50+ attendees and an awesome line-up of presenters, including Chief Ticer, Jermaine "Tall Cop" Galloway, Nate Auvenshine from Redeemed Training and Consulting, Brandon Bonney, and MATFORCE Assistant Director Nikki Rosson.

The fabulous Denise Beagley of Beagley Consulting gave the final keynote talk on "Self-Care & Practicing Positivity."

It was great to get this summer conference up and running again after a 3 year hiatus!

It was also wonderful to connect with old colleagues, make new connections, and explore opportunities for future collaboarations!

This FREE symposium will feature national speakers Jermaine Galloway and Denise Beagley, as well as a roster of Yavapai County All-Stars and subject matter experts!

This AWESOME event led by the FABULOUS by YCCA Director Sandy Griffiths is also happening tomorrow 9 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday 9 AM to 3 PM.

Also had a great conversation with P.C. Council Member April Hepperle about regional plans to safeguard one of our most precious resources---our WATER!

OK time for some bragging from Y.C. Health & Wellness...

Last week I graduated from northern Arizona University with a Master's Degree in Public Administration.

I am very thankful for the love and support I've received from my family throughout my late-in-life higher education pursuits, and I was happy to present them with the Gratitude Stole (the yellow thing).

But wait...there's more...

PFS Superstars Stefanie Culver and Danielle Hultquist .then.danielle graduated from Yavapai College with top honors a few weeks back as well.

It has been an honor and a privilege for me to work with Stefanie and Danielle this past year... I know they will be going on to great things as they pursue their own Lumberjack dreams at N.A.U.!

In the words of the immortal Emil Faber, "Knowledge is good."
