“It’s surreal sometimes when you have the opportunity to take it all in. The creativity is everywhere. You’re surrounded by gardens. The music is beyond words. It’s really a special event.” - John Andraka, Production Manager, Starlite.
We agree!! And we are so fortunate to work with all the incredible folks at Starlite who help support the vision of the Princeton Festival and help us bring it to life. Read more below.
For our penultimate festival performance, Empire Wild took the stage with a wide variety of tunes from their repertoire. Ranging from originals to classical staples and jazz covers to Scottish reels, the audience was treated to a little bit of everything demonstrating their versatility as an ensemble. The members of Empire Wild varied their line up with solos and duos that featured their instrumental talents while interjecting personal stories to illustrate their musical journeys. Kudos to Empire Wild and our concertgoers for braving the humidity!
The Sebastians thrilled the concertgoers again, no surprise there! From Telemann’s intimate Concerto in A Major for flute, violin, and cello to the playful Suite for two violins, “Gulliver’s Travels” to Bach’s jaunty Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, the Sebastians showcased their sensitivity and virtuosity with each piece. Cheers to another fabulous Princeton Festival performance!
We had a wonderful turnout for our Juneteenth Community Celebration, heat notwithstanding! Tipple & Rose provided delicious complimentary treats and the BigEasy Ewing had full dinners available for purchase. The ‘Let Freedom Ring’ oral history project was a success thanks to many who shared their stories in the phone booth.
Many thanks to our community partners Art Against Racism , Historical Society of Princeton, Not In Our Town - Princeton, Morven Museum & Garden, Passage Theatre at the Mill Hill Playhouse, The Paul Robeson House of Princeton, Princeton Parents for Black Children, Princeton Public Library and the Voices of Princeton Project, Stuart Country Day School, West Windsor Arts, The Witherspoon-Jackson Historical and Cultural Society, and YWCA Princeton for helping make this day meaningful for all our attendees!
It was an honor to be part of the Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony with the Municipality of Princeton (Princeton, NJ Government). Councilmembers Leighton Newlin and Leticia Fraga led the ceremony with guest speaker Leanna Jahnke, Chair of the Advisory Committee on Affordable Housing, Human Services, and Racial, Social, and Economic Equity. Dawana Richardson and George Johnson III led the attendees in a beautiful rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” during the flag raising.
Also in attendance were PSO Executive Director Marc Uys, PSO Trustee Benedikt von Schröder, Mayor Mark Freda, Council President Mia Sacks, Councilmembers Eve Niedergang, Michelle Pirone Lambros, and David Cohen. Thank you to all involved for such a beautiful start to our terrific Juneteenth celebration!
The Juneteenth Celebration Honoring Black Choral Music featured a jubilant evening of choral selections. The Capital Singers of Trenton conducted by Vinroy D. Brown, Jr. and the Capital Singers of Trenton Women’s Ensemble led by Ellen J. Dondero commenced the evening with a moving message from Rev. Simeon Spencer.
Vinroy D. Brown, Jr., conductor returned with the massive Princeton Festival Chorus, soloists Dawana Richardson and George Johnson III, and an instrumental ensemble for a rousing performance of Robert Ray’s "Gospel Mass" eliciting joyful claps and applause throughout. Following a standing ovation, the audience joined in for a stirring “Lift Every Voice and Sing” to end a wonderful evening of music and community. Thank you to all the choirs and respective conductors for their dedication and for joining us for the festival!
