Fridays from 4-7 at Libertalia will be a time for people to come and find out about volunteering at the library, as well as working on stuff for it. Stop by!

Sorry folks who might've been planning on attending the zine workshop I mentioned a few days ago: it has been cancelled due to illness :(

This is a page mostly to keep track of the progress and going ons of the Library as well as local zine community information, zine culture things, etc. There are most likely more effective and appropriate places to advertise your publications. For some reason a post was made to Use Your Words Zine Library for a publication advertisement, and facebook somehow managed to get that in Use Your Words Zine Library's page photo album. While normally that post would not have been deleted right away, since it added a photo to the library's album, it was deleted. Please try to keep this in mind while posting things to this page.

There will be a zine workshop, called "Copy and Paste your Way to the Revolution" happening this Sunday at Libertalia Autonomous Space at 3:45pm.

Here is the description: "This workshop is for all levels of interest in zines, whether you make them already or are contemplating starting. We will talk about the definition of a zine, the history of zines in relation to social change/revolution, discuss how zine making is a radical act, and share zine resources and tips for making and sharing zines. Bring your thoughts and ideas about zines and be ready to discuss and learn more about them."

going to really work on stuff today! This past week I was volunteering at Girls Rock! RI...the girls made their own zine! That was cool! Now that I have more free time to devote I'm getting down to business to get the UYW in shape

Just ordered some labels to put on the zines in the collection so that they can be recognized as such if someone takes them out or they're hanging out with other zines! Exciting! Although, staples showed me some other products I could make with the logo, and I was almost tempted to make myself a UYW shirt :( haha

We are having a working meeting at Libertalia Autonomous Space from about 6-7:30. Although Laura is here now, her class got out early, so if anytime before that can stop by if it's better for you, you're welcome too. Looking to get people to help out with cataloging and the structure of the library as well as librarians!

The first Zine Stream ever!

Our very first zine stream went great! About 5 people came which was the perfect amount of people for the table space we have currently! It'd still be great to see some new faces at our next event, which is on the 24th of sept. Yay!

Wishlist: We could still really use more copy paper, a long arm stapler or other staplers, staple taker outers, black markers (we have plenty of colored), more block printing materials, ephemera and other images/printed papers, old useless manuals or books with cool old images that people don't want, more scissors, typewriter ribbon for a brother electric typewriter (the cartridge kind?), glue sticks, etc.

Zine Stream has been approved to start this upcoming Saturday the 10th at Libertalia Autonomous Space! Zine stream will happen every other Saturday from 1-4. This is a time you can come together with other people to work on a zine. There will be some supplies you can use to do zine related things available, but for right now it is best if you bring what you need to work on your specific zine because we can't guarantee we'll have it all. Donations of supplies are graciously accepted however!

we had a very productive work group meeting yesterday. Anyone who is interested in the operations of getting this project up and running and maintaining it should email useyourwordzines (at) gmail (dot) com, even if you can't actually attend meetings.

We still are looking for people who would be interested in helping organizing, setting up, and being librarians though! That's what the Wednesday meeting is geared for.

In the meeting yesterday, we discussed (and submit a proposal) to have an additional semi regular time to have a group meeting where people can have a space to work on their zines, with the company of others doing their own thing. It should turn out well, more details as they become available.

Need to try and figure out some things with this project. I need some sort of database that is easy to sort through for a catalog system, not sure if library thing is best for this.

got some really cool donations in the mail today, a series of accordion style zines with such titles as "how to get free yoga classes" and "what if my life was like a movie" "sunlight in my soul," etc, and a bicycle zine called "kickstand" and some really well designed other titles, etc. YAY

still two minutes left to convince me to stay longer! haha Although I may stick around for a bit just working on stuff too since it's more motivating to work on zine library cataloging here...
