Arizona SB1260 | 2024 | Fifty-sixth Legislature 2nd Regular Bill Text (2024-06-21) Dog racing; simulcast wagering; prohibition [Governor Signed]

06/25/2024

Governor McKee has signed into law Rhode Island General Assembly legislation that extends the use of the inhumane battery cages for egg laying hens to 2030.
The only egg supplier in our state still using battery cages is Little Rhody Farms.
VSA hopes that you will remember this when you purchase eggs.
Please buy eggs that have the humane seal on the packaging.
This extension of time for the use of the battery cages is a very big disappointment because we thought the end was in sight in 2026.

WHEN EGG LAYING HENS ARE NO LONGER USEFUL, THEY ARE SLAUGHTERED.
THE END OF BATTERY CAGES IN RHODE ISLAND WAS INTENDED TO END BY LAW IN 2026 BUT IT IS BEING EXTENDED.
IF GOVERNOR MCKEE SIGNS THE NEW DATE INTO LAW, WE WILL POST THAT INFORMATION.
GOVERNOR MCKEE'S OFFICE NUMBER IS 401-222-2080 IF YOU WANT TO LET HIM KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS MATTER.
YOU CAN HELP THE EGGLAYING HENS BY PURCHASING EGGS THAT CARRY THE HUMANE INSIGNIA ON THE PACKAGING.

VSA Warwick Branch thanks Warwick State Senator Mark McKenney for voting against the extension of time to continue the use of the inhumane battery cages holding the egg laying hens.

HELP THE HENS at Little Rhody Farms by letting store managers know that you will only buy eggs with the humane insignia on the packaging.
VSA thanks all the individuals and humane organizations that gave testimony opposing the extension of time from 2026 to 2034 for Little Rhody Farms to free the hens from the inhumane battery cages.
Our advocacy for these sentient beings has limited the extension to 2028.
VSA thanks the Rhode Island General Assembly for weighing in on the side of compassion vs profit making.
Thank you to the State Senators and Representatives who voted against allowing the additional time.

TO VSA'S FOLLOWERS, PLEASE CONTINUE TO HELP THE HENS BY SUPPORTING CAGE FREE EGG PRODUCTION.

SAD NEWS -- In 2018 the Rhode Island General Assembly passed a cage-free law for egg laying hens. That legislation was to take effect in 2026. Unfortunately, the Rhode Island General Assembly is poised to go back on their word and will extend that date to 2030. You can show opposition to this inhumane move by not buying locally produced eggs or any eggs that don't carry the humane insignia on the packaging. VSA and the Humane Society of the United States gave testimony and information on why this extension of time just continues to hurt the animals that provide us with our nourishment.
