Meet Dr. Erin Kramer Holmes (she/her/hers), the Director of the School of Family Life! Erin did her undergraduate work at BYU in Family Sciences, received her MS at the University of Delaware, and her Ph.D. at The University of Texas at Austin.
She spent her childhood in Chicago and her adolescence in Rexburg. Though she thought moving to Provo during her senior year of high school was the cruelest thing her parents could do, she forgave them once she discovered her cute neighbor, Chris Holmes, who lived just down the street.
Erin and her opera-singing husband have been married for 23 years. They have 3 children (pictured in order from oldest to youngest), a golden doodle, and 2 cats. If you want to hear a story from their courtship, ask her husband about a “strictly platonic kiss.”
Her research focuses on fathering, mothering, and the work-family interface. More recently, she has been studying the impact of su***de loss on individuals and families.
Assuming COVID settles down, she and a colleague will take a group of students to London this summer to learn about global human rights and women’s rights. Email her if you’re interested at [email protected]!
In her spare time, Erin loves trying new restaurants, baking, traveling, singing, playing games, watching TV, going to the movies and the theater, and spending time with the people she loves.
