⚠️Please take extra precautions with your fireworks during your July 4th💥 festivities this week/weekend.
We are currently in a moderate drought and vegetation that normally would not support fire growth at this time of year is readily available to burn.

⚠️Fire crews from both Wythe & Pulaski counties worked together to control a 1 acre wildfire in a remote area along the railroad tracks off of Gunton Park Road along the County line.
The US Forest Service and VA Department of Forestry personnel will continue to mop-up the fire in the coming days. Smoke may be seen or smelled in the area until the fire is 100% extinguished.
The current dry conditions we are experiencing are prime for wildfires to occur.

Thanks to Nick Ferra with the VOLVO UAW Unions Community Service Committee for the donation of drinking for our first responders.
We look forward to working with Nick and the Committee in the future.
Public and private partnerships with Emergency Management are critical during disasters.

For those recreating on the New River this week, be aware of possible rapidly changing water conditions below Claytor Dam.

♨️ HOT TEMPS CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEK ♨️

The National Weather Service is calling for continued hot temperatures through the week and into the weekend. These temperatures could require us to increase power generation at Claytor Hydroelectric facility to maintain reliability of the regional electric grid.

If we are notified to increase power generation, we will have little time to alert the public about the potential of increased downstream flows.

Please continue to check back for updates as they become available and visit http://ms.spr.ly/6187YLXgW to view real-time water levels at our hydro facilities.

👉 Visit http://ms.spr.ly/6188YLXgo for additional information on this event.

June 4 2024:
Emergency Management conducted a table top exercise for an incident at a local large industry.
Participants from local Law Enforcement, Fire & EMS agencies, hospitals, numerous county staff, VA Dept. of Emergency Management along with Volvo took part.
Exercises like this helps stakeholders to be better prepared to respond to incidents by building inter-agency cooperation.
Thanks to NRCC for providing an outstanding facility to conduct the exercise.
