Shew doggie, it’s been hotter than Satan’s big toe here lately. Hope everyone is able to stay as cool as possible. And don’t forget to hydrate. With something besides beer or that White Crawl stuff.

With it being so hot, please be sure to look after your furry friends and family members. And no, I’m not talking about your hairy Uncle Kevin who makes Chewbacca look like a hairless cat. I’m talking about our four legged buddies that make our lives so much better! There are certain laws that have to be followed when it comes to critters being outside in the hot weather. Please be sure to read and heed. Also, our good friends over at the animal shelter wanted me to pass along that they have wire crates available to loan out so you can bring your buddies inside on the really hot days. Any questions just holler at us. Call your mom.

Okie dokie, we all know that tomorrow is one of the most important days in the history of the world! FREEEEEEEEEDDOOMM!!! Lots of folks have a long weekend to celebrate it and hopefully everyone gets to enjoy at least a little time off! Make the most of your time with family and friends, especially your kids, they grow up fast.

Let’s go over a few items to hopefully help everyone enjoy the weekend:
* Dumb choices + long weekend + no judges till Monday = sucks to be you. So don’t do dumbness and you won’t be in the pokey all weekend or beyond.
* It doesn’t matter if you are raising a glass to America or burning a fatty for Tupac, be responsible, not stupid. Please make arrangements for safe travel to and from your celebratory events.
* July 4th comes the same time every year. It doesn’t sneak up on us and it’s not a surprise what goes on. Please be a courteous neighbor to those around you, no matter how you do or do not celebrate. And remember to make sure your critters are cared for.
* Keep in mind that lots of fuses burn a good bit faster than what you think. Unless you want your friends to be calling you Two Finger Tommy or One-eyed Willie, get away from that thing once you light it!
* If you are traveling this weekend, allow extra time to reach your destination. You know traffic will be a mess and you are going to get stuck behind every left lane loafer out there.
* Whatever the traffic conditions are, don’t be a Road Rage Randy and give a single finger salute to each and every non courteous driver you come across. Just smile, say bless their little pea picking’ hearts, and breathe.

As always, take a few moments to remember how fortunate you are to live in the greatest country on the planet. We are not even close to being perfect, but we are a dang sight better than anywhere else. God bless America, God bless our troops, and call your mom.

Press Release
Date: June 28, 2024
THE VIRGINIA FORENSIC SCIENCE ACADEMY COMPLETES
112th SESSION WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT GRADUATE
The Virginia Forensic Science Academy has concluded its One Hundred and Twelfth Session. Pulaski Co. Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce that Investigator Rose L. Ellis has successfully met all requirements and is hereby a graduate, as of June 28, 2024.
The Academy's objective is to provide high-level training to qualified crime scene search officers. Law enforcement personnel learn to properly recognize, document, collect, and preserve - for laboratory examination - items of physical evidence found at crime scenes •
The Academy participant becomes familiar with the
capabilities and limitations of the modern forensic laboratory in examining the spectrum of materials which can be collected as evidence in criminal cases•
The nine-week course of study also provides officers with the necessary background information and practical application techniques which, coupled with the student's previous experience, permits maximum utilization of the forensic sciences to their departments and the Criminal Justice System of the Commonwealth.

Super Secret Squirrel Stan Lee and friends want to remind everyone that littering is a big NO-NO!! So please don’t be a Trashy Truman or a Lazy Luda! Littering is a Class 1 Misdemeanor, which is up to 12 months in the pokey and/or up to a $2,500.00 fine. (Certain restrictions apply, see your local gated community for details as to their lovely accommodations. Be sure to ask about their members only group activities.)

Stan and friends want to remind everyone that even though the one bag challenge is over, there is still a chance to win one of three very nice prizes at the end of the year. All ya have to do is pick up trash! This is for individuals or groups. To find out more details, please read the attached info.

Something else to think about is our furry friends. Before he retired, PCSO K9 Zeus stepped on some broken glass in the performance of his duties and got injured pretty good.

Which brings up something else entirely. And to put it as nicely as possible, it doesn’t matter if you are using needles for legit medical reasons or if you are trying to take a magic carpet ride to go see the muffin man, DISPOSE OF YOUR USED OR UNWANTED NEEDLES PROPERLY. Enough said.

Anyhow anyhoo, like a wise old owl use to say, give a hoot, don’t pollute. Eat your veggies, stay hydrated, and call your mom.

If y’all see this fella around the county selling educational materials, just fyi, he did stop by the office and other agencies to make sure he was legal and allowed to go door to door. His name is Michal Knap and he’s an exchange student from Poland.

Today is about remembering those that sacrificed not only their lives in service to America, but their futures. And the futures of those they loved and held dear, a future that would now contain an empty dark space that could never be filled. Please take a few moments to learn the name and story of at least one of these precious heroes.

Warren J. Moran-Coast Guard
Lori Piestewa-Army
Dan Bullock-Marines
James Joseph Murphy-Navy
Duane Whitney Martin-Air Force

These are just five of those that are owed a debt that can never be repaid. Be an American that would make them proud, an American worthy of their sacrifice. God Bless America, land that I love.

Earlier today, a white male driving what appears to be a newer model black KIA SUV with temporary vehicle tags from an unknown state, robbed the Citgo gas station right off of Exit 92 in the Draper area of the County. He then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash headed north on Interstate 81. If you recognize this individual or happen to spot him, please call us immediately at (540)980-7800. You can also leave any information you may have on our anonymous tip line at (540)980-7810, or you can leave a message here. Thanks, we appreciate it, y’all be safe.

Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to all the great dispatchers out there! Thank you for all you do to help our citizens and also all y’all do to put up with the likes of me!!

And now here’s a little FYI…….
*Some dispatchers have a hard time understanding sober people when they call in. I’ve found that if a sober person puts a few marbles in their mouth prior to calling dispatch, they understand you much better.
*Dispatchers absolutely love it when you call in and cuss them because they can’t read your mind. And be sure to tell them that you pay their salary, that ALWAYS makes things go better.
*It is a little known secret that all dispatchers have the personal cellphone number of the electric company president and they know exactly when the power is going to be restored.
*Another little known fact is that when each dispatcher graduates dispatcher training, they are issued a massive binder that has the answer to every possible question under the sun. And they love it when someone calls in trying to stump them on the most trivial subject.
*Dispatchers also love it when you call 911 to report a possible peeping Tom from last week and you start the conversation out with…”this ain’t really an emergency, but….”

All kidding aside, our dispatchers are the best!! They handle their business with a good attitude, knowledge, skill, and an unbelievable amount of grace under pressure. We appreciate the heck out of every single one of y’all!!

**SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENNT*

Since the weather was near perfect this past weekend, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office initiated Operation Twofer. This action was necessitated by the ever growing freshwater sand shark population in Claytor Lake. To help combat the toothy threat, PCSO has purchased and released a large number of herbivorous salt water alligators into the lake. According to famed water wildlife expert J. Cousteau, freshwater sand sharks and herbivorous salt water alligators are natural enemies. As such, the shark population in the lake should be dealt with promptly, especially if the sharks continue to take naps while they are sunbathing on shore. Our friends with the Virginia Conservation Police Association have assured us that this particular breed of alligator is very docile and friendly towards humans. So if you’re swimming in the lake and you feel something nudge your leg, it’s probably nothing to worry about…we hope. But just to be certain, we did speak with world renowned brain surgeon and jellyfish sting expert Dr. Drake Ramoray, and he assured us that as long as no one tries to share any soy flavored food with the alligators, everyone should be safe. Deputies with our drone team were able to catch some pictures of the alligators already in action. As always, please report any sightings of the freshwater sand sharks or the herbivorous salt water alligators to your local office of Special Unregulated Cage Kept Animals, and they will direct you further.
