Preservation Revitalization Of Pulaski-PROP

Dear Pulaski Area Community Members.

As many of you know, the mission of PROP is to preserve and revitalize our beautiful village. Over the years PROP has taken lead on many initiatives designed to do just that with the support of our amazing community. One of those initiatives was the bench beautification project. Years ago, community members, families, organizations and businesses were given the opportunity to sponsor a bench as a way to aid PROP in purchasing the benches. The sponsorship afforded these generous community members a small recognition plaque on a bench commemorating an individual, organization or business of their choice. The sponsorship did not give rights of ownership of the bench to the benefactor.

As with your own personal property, especially metal that is left outside in our harsh northern NY elements, these benches have a limited lifetime usage. Many of these benches are showing signs of age causing public use safety and/or liability concerns.

Please know your PROP board members have taken this under careful and thoughtful consideration. We recognize how special these benches are to many individuals and families within our community. PROP has over 50 benches in our inventory that are all in various stages of wear and tear. We seek to make an informed and thoughtful decision about what to do with the benches as they approach the end of their safe and useful life. We also must follow guidelines and restrictions imposed on not-for-profits regarding "gifting" or giving away items purchased.

We respectfully ask that you trust us to make decisions that are both legally and ethically responsible relative to this issue. Please do not be caught up in any dialogue meant to incite or create distrust. Our perceived "inaction" or "failure to respond" on this issue is simply because we do not yet have all of the information, we need to make an informed decision regarding each bench. Benches currently not out for public use have been moved to an indoor, secure facility until such time as the PROP board makes a final decision regarding this matter.

Light Up Pulaski always takes place the first Sunday in December. This year, due to the first Sunday being the weekend following Thanksgiving, we have decided to push the date out a week. This year's event will be held Sunday, December 8th
