Too often, we equate caring for our mental and emotional health with weakness and failure - especially when we're taught that our "strength" is based on our ability to handle the stresses of everyday life without "cracking".
Sign the Petition Mental Health Professionals are struggling. We care and want change.
April marks National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about s*xual violence and its impact on individuals, families, and communities. One critical aspect often overlooked in these discussions is the profound effect s*xual assault can have on mental health.
Sexual assault is a traumatic experience that can lead to a range of mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Survivors may struggle with feelings of shame, guilt, and fear, impacting their self-esteem and ability to trust others. These emotional challenges can significantly impact daily life and relationships.
It's essential to recognize the signs of mental health issues in survivors and provide them with the support and resources they need. Counseling and therapy can be instrumental in helping survivors process their experiences, manage their symptoms, and regain a sense of control and empowerment.
As mental health professionals, advocates, and allies, we must work together to create a safe and supportive environment for survivors. This includes providing trauma-informed care, promoting healthy relationships and boundaries, and challenging societal norms that perpetuate s*xual violence.
During National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, let's recommit ourselves to supporting survivors, raising awareness, and promoting mental health and healing. Together, we can create a world where s*xual violence is not tolerated, and all individuals can live free from fear and trauma.
If you or someone you know is a survivor of s*xual assault and struggling with mental health issues, please know that help is available. Contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or visit [www.rainn.org](http://www.rainn.org/) for support and resources.

Dating can be a journey of self-discovery and a process of learning what you want and donโt want out of a partner. Recognize the signs of love bombings.
6 signs you may be dating a love bomber
Love bombers put a lot of emphasis on โthe chase,โ which is why love bombing is so prominent very early in a relationship. Hereโs what you should watch out for.
1. Theyโre extremely affectionate right from the start. If your new love interest has been telling you how much they like or even love you from the moment you met, consider it a sign that theyโre trying to create a sense of attachment as quickly as possible.
2. They put you on a pedestal. They might call you their soulmate or say youโre destined to be togetherโbefore they actually get to know you.
3. They want you to commit quickly. For instance, they might pressure you into labeling the relationship, having s*x before you feel ready, or moving in together quickly.
4. They surprise you with gifts. Frequent or extravagant gifts for no reason at all may be intended to win you over so you feel compelled to stay.
5. They continue to violate your boundaries after youโve mentioned things youโre not okay with.
They might even act like the victim and accuse you of being unreasonable or selfish.
6. Youโre afraid of upsetting them. You might feel like if you donโt do what they ask, theyโll feel hurt or angry.

Yup, I'm going to be the one who takes it deep now that we've had a full 24 hours of funny memes ๐! Because baaaabbbbbbyyyyyyyyyyy... I can't miss this beautiful opportunity to talk about generational trauma, epigenetics, & ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด! โฃ
โฃ
I was watching (ok, rewatching ๐ฌ) the video clip of Aaren Rudolph and I got chills down my back... So I thought what in the dopamine release is going on (dopamine is one of our happy brain chemicals). Then it really hit me the magnitude of what I was watching... what we were watching... what our DNA was watching and making note of! โฃ
โฃ
So cliff notes version ๐... Just like eye color, hair color, gaps in teeth are hereditary and passed through dna (& yes I used the gap in teeth example because I have a gap ๐)... So can the effects & feelings of trauma!!! And the more trauma has happened to a group of shared people in your lineage, the stronger it can be expressed in your DNA of future generations if never healed. โฃ
โฃ
People joke about Black people can't swim, but have you ever thought about where the fear of water comes from? It was once the casket that so many of our ancestors met. There were the ones that saw those traumatic event and their DNA took note... water meant death... not life... not fun... not relaxation. So to help survive, brains because to express in our dna for generations to stay away from the water. โฃ
โฃ
Then came Aaren (& the many before him) that were changing the narrative about water for us. โฃ
โฃ
The most beautiful thing about this, is we are watching this TOGETHER. In large groups, Black people witnessed the water murders together. Heck in today's time, we've witnessed Black murders together through social media & the news... ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ. You have to understand how big that moment of seeing a 16 year old Black boy leap into the water... rise out the water... and come to the aid to help another Black man who was being attacked. โฃ
โฃ
Don't let that cellular & ancestral healing that came through Aaren go over your head... Oh we healing, healing over here ๐. โฃ

Itโs only fitting to honor not only my birthday twin but my aunt as we celebrated her life today. Many donโt know sheโs the reason I do what I do. I will miss our talks and her knowledge especially, when I needed to pick her brain about symptoms and medications. She was a psych nurse and I the mental health counselor you see today. Auntie Iโm committed to this work so continue to shine your light on my journey until we meet again. ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
