Spring is for coming together! Recently, families and students at Ferrucci Junior High got to experience their first multicultural fair as a school, hosted and organized by CIS with help from Ferrucci's ASB Equity Cabinet. The evening was filled with activities, recipe sharing, performances, and, most importantly, cultural appreciation. Thank you to the community, and Ferrucci for holding space for this inaugural event. We can't wait until the next one!
S'mores, stories, and Stewart- Oh my! At CISP, we love any opportunity to foster community development and connect with the families we serve. Recently, our site coordinator, Carrie, hosted her 2nd annual Shop, Drop, and Read family event at Stewart Elementary- She invites us in for a peek with this week's mission moment:
Shop, Drop, and Read serves as a beaming example of what good can happen when community partners are brought together. The evening featured sweet treats, engaging activities, and scores upon scores of free books for families to provide new homes for! We are beyond excited to see this event become a staple for the Stewart community- Kudos to you, Carrie!
Rumor has it that our Pope site coordinator, Andrea, has the ability to transform into a giant slice of pizza overnight! This week's mission moment comes straight from the pizza princess herself as we highlight Pope Elementary's Pizza Palooza attendance program.
Level after level, classes find their collaboration and attendance incentivized through the program as they work together to earn various treats and receive the ultimate reward: A pizza party! With hard work and dedication, nearly every class at Pope has earned at least one party thus far. Thank you, Andrea, for facilitating this amazing program!
Happy Friday! Our mission moment this week comes from our Dessie Evans site coordinator, Noel. At Dessie, Noel hosted a "Spring Into Action Shoe Drive." She highlights the enthusiasm of 3rd grader, Jaxen Davis:
In an excellent display of determination and leadership, Jaxen was able to amass enough community support and monetary donations to purchase 18 pairs of shoes to contribute to the drive. "Jaxen's kindness and motivation are going to transform lives of local students. We are so proud of him!" Way to go, Jaxen, and congratulations, Noel, for facilitating such a successful drive!
Were you able to catch us at the Puyallup School District Resource Fair last night?
Thank you, PSD for hosting and curating a space for community-based service providers to connect with families and one another, new and known. We're looking forward to the next one!
Ever wondered what goes on at our CIS model schools? Beginning this week, we will be sharing highlights from our site coordinators about their favorite programs and mission moments. This week's mission moment comes to you from coordinator Grace at Sunrise!
Costco Readers is a beloved program at Sunrise Elementary. Each week, eight first-grade students get to receive 1-on-1 time with a volunteer from Costco to bolster their reading skills. Students are always so excited when it comes time to go to this group on Tuesdays!
Thank you, Grace and Costco Readers for being !
Huge partner shoutout and thank you to the fabulous Women's Network of Waste Connections! For years, this amazing team comprised of folks from Pierce County’s own Murrey’s Disposal, LRI, and LeMay Pierce County Refuse, has been assembling hundreds of spring break snack bags for youth and kiddos in our Backpack Buddy program. This year, their generous contributions will help to ensure over 500 students receive some extra special treats to enjoy over their much-deserved break!
