Patrick Smith, BSN '16
Patrick Smith (BSN, ‘16) is a primary care nurse and public health researcher whose work focuses on understanding and addressing structural determinants of health inequities. Most recently, his work has focused on examining the linkages between housing instability, health, and healthcare use in the United States. In addition, Patrick has conducted global health equity research with a variety of international organizations, including Partners In Health and UNICEF. Previously, he served as a Complex Care Manager at Fenway Health, where he worked to improve care delivery systems for patients living with multiple physical and mental health conditions. He received his BSN from the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Community Health and Prevention at Drexel University.

Days 2 and 3 have been busy with working on stress with chair yoga, exercise, mindful breathing, health screenings for vision, BMI, BP, and more healthy eating tips. We are enjoying the scenery and culture and working with the great staff, teachers, and other volunteers here. We were treated to a lovely dinner at Brother Dale's home cooked by our new friends from Notre Dame University.
Villanova BSN Express students have arrived in Browning, Montana for a week of health promotion with the summer students at the De La Salle School. Today we worked on healthy eating and stress relief. Off to a great start !

Lori A. Modly DNP, RN, CPNP-PC, Assistant Clinical Professor, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Emory University
Dr. Modly is a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, currently working on a volunteer basis at the Good Samaritan Clinic in Atlanta, GA. Prior to becoming a PNP in 2011, she worked as an RN in Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) for 8 years. Before becoming a nurse Dr. Modly was a Sonar Technician in the US Navy. Dr. Modly earned her BSN from the University of South Florida in 2003 and her MSN (PNP) at Emory in 2011. Dr. Modly received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Health Systems Leadership from NHWSN in 2019, her doctoral focus was data management systems, practice, and implementation in rural health.

Dr. Zenk’s fascinating research has focused on social inequities and health with a goal of identifying effective, multilevel approaches to improve and eliminate racial/ethnic and socioeconomic health disparities. Her research portfolio has included National Institutes of Health-supported work into urban food environments and food deserts, community health solutions and veterans’ health.

Guy M. Weissinger II, PhD, MPhil, RN
Dr. Weissinger is a nurse researcher on the intersection of mental health and the healthcare system. His current research focuses on su***de prevention and other mental health concerns of adolescents. Originally a therapist before training as a nurse scientist, he uses rigorous qualitative and quantitative methods to answer complex questions to improve care and systems for people with mental health problems and their families. He works on public health programs working to improve youth-serving systems’ su***de prevention practices and implement mental health screening and response. In addition, he conducts research focused on the role of parents and other caregivers during a youth su***de crisis to improve youth and family outcomes. He has clinical experience in HIV care, emergency medicine, outpatient mental health, and public health nursing. Dr. Weissinger's clinical, teaching, and research practice are all informed by a health equity lens and focus on eliminating health disparities.
