The Hypervolt uses rapid, vibrating pulses directly to your muscles allowing for rapid stimulation of blood flow to a specific area. Percussion therapy is useful for relieving muscle soreness and tightness, improving range of motion, promoting circulation, and accelerating warm up and recovery.

It is recommended to use the Hypervolt for 30 seconds to 2 minutes per muscle or body part. You should use it no more than 15-20 minutes for the whole body. It is safe to use everyday after an intense workout or if you’re experiencing muscle tension.

Raleigh Orthopaedic Performance Centers are offering a free Hypervolt Massage session through the end of December. To schedule your free session, email [email protected] or call 919-876-1100.

One of the biggest issues we see today in sports is an abundance of overuse and preventable musculoskeletal injuries due to improper conditioning, lack of recovery or both. In the current era of sports specialization, an athlete can unknowingly be placed in a comprising position with respect to his or her physical and mental health with grueling practice schedules, the pressure to make a top team, and the drive to earn a college scholarship. A muscle strain is the tearing of a muscle. Strains can be categorized as an acute or chronic strain. An acute strain is the result of a muscle that has been stretched suddenly and it is more likely to occur in cold weather. A chronic strain is caused by lengthy, repetitive motions that utilize the same muscle group, such as tennis, golf, or sitting at a desk for long periods of time.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy can help treat these acute and chronic muscle strains by allowing deeper tissue pe*******on that enables your cells to produce energy more effectively, helping you to heal and recover quicker.

Raleigh Orthopaedic Performance Centers are offering a free deep tissue laser therapy session if you schedule through the end of November. To schedule your free session, call 919-876-1100 or email [email protected].

The state of North Carolina allows patients direct access to physical therapy. Direct Access means that physical therapists are allowed to treat patients without a referral from a general practitioner or specialist. Check with your insurance to see if your plan allows Direct Access for Physical Therapy. To schedule your first appointment, call Raleigh Orthopaedic Performance Centers at 919-876-1100.

Class IV Laser Therapy is used to treat acute and chronic conditions, most effectively, muscle strains and tendinitis. Laser therapy can also be effective in post activity and sports recovery times and reducing delayed onset of muscle soreness.

LightForce Laser Therapy works by generating a photo-chemical response in damaged tissue. This response stimulates healing on a cellular level by enabling your cells to produce energy more effectively which helps you heal and recover quicker.

Raleigh Orthopaedic Performance Centers are offering a free laser therapy session through the end of November. To schedule your free laser therapy session, email [email protected] or call 919-876-1100.

MYTH: During dry needling, the needle is inserted into trigger points in the muscle tissue. This creates a lesion in the tissue that triggers the body's natural healing response to send blood, healing chemicals and nutrients to that specific area. This allows the trigger points to release so normal function is restored.

During acupuncture, needles are placed into points along the meridian lines that are believed to connect to the body's organs. Acupuncture was created to help improve proper flow of energy through the body. Needles are normally left in place for 15-30 minutes during this treatment.

Both Raleigh Orthopaedic Performance Centers offer dry needling as a stand alone service or as an adjunct to physical therapy. For more information visit: http://apcraleigh.com/programs/dry-needling-2/

The most prevalent injured knee ligament is the ACL. Damage to the ACL occurs more often during a sport when an athlete slows down when running, changes direction rapidly, or when landing after a jump. Studies have shown ACL injuries can be prevented by 50% if preventative training programs are completed, which is something offered at both Raleigh Orthopaedic Performance Centers. It is recommended to get 10-15 minutes of preventative training 2-3 times a week to lessen the risk of an ACL injury. These preventative exercises may include strength and jump training, stretching, and balance training. For more information on injury prevention and performance training, visit: http://apcraleigh.com/programs/sports-physical-therapy/post-rehab-training/
