Today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. With the horrible event happening in Texas this past Shabbat, I couldn’t help but think and be reminded that so much evil, hate and darkness is still in our world.

Dr. King’s words still ring true: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." Dr. King and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel both spoke and marched together to create and force change…. and they continue to remind us that there is much work yet to be done and much that we can and should be doing!

We pray for healing and peace in our nation and in our world.
Wishing you, your family, and all a wonderful, healthy, peaceful and Happy New Year!
Wow! Desert Outreach Synagogue had a wonderful crowd of 105 last night as we lit the candles and sang the blessings together with so much gratitude for being together again.

What a great first night of Hanukkah at Wally's! Thanks so much to Wallys.... and special thanks to Chris and Leon for incredibly beautiful music. We ate, drank, sang and danced the night away.

Also much gratitude to Lois, David, Karl and all who volunteered to make it go smoothly... and Leroy for keeping us safe.
I am very grateful for many blessings of good health, family, friends and so much more! Wishing everyone a wonderful and a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Veteran's Day to all those who served! Today I remember, honor and memorialize those I know, have known, those I served with and also to my many family members who served both past and present! May our nation heal and always be great!
Lovely morning... cooler temps... and a light rain... and then a rainbow. Made me smile thinking of the Parashah HaShavua - Noach...

Shabbat Shalom!
Wishing you a healthy and sweet New Year!

Desert Outreach Synagogue Announces the Opening of their Beit Sefer (Religious School).
Rancho Mirage: The Desert Outreach Synagogue is proud and excited to announce the opening of our Beit Sefer for the 2022- 2023 school year. School will be held on Saturdays (Shabbat school), beginning October 8th, from 9:45 AM to noon at the Unitarian Church community room in Rancho Mirage.
On the first morning of school, DOS staff will host a breakfast for our families and celebrate Sukkot. Rabbi Dr. Jules King will join us and demonstrate the shaking of the Lulav and Etrog, recite the blessings and share stories about this joyous festival.
The goal of our Beit Sefer is to provide the Coachella Valley with a vibrant environment where students will learn about Jewish rituals, holidays, observances and liturgy through a creative curriculum led by experienced teachers. We’ll incorporate appropriate art, music, dance and fun activities to allow our students to build Jewish friendships. We are a full-service educational program providing classes for K- 10th grade.
B’nai Mitzvah preparation and confirmation will be taught by the Director of the school, Arava Talve. Arava, formerly the principal of the Avi Levine Religious School at Temple Sinai in Palm Desert, has been a Jewish educator for over 25 years and has led more than 500 youth and adult students on their journey to become Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Arava will also teach confirmation and, as the director of our school, is very excited about sharing the beauty of our Jewish tradition with our youth.
In addition, in order to give our students leadership opportunities, Arava will be facilitating a Learner’s Minyan on Shabbat mornings at 9:00AM twice a month. As the students learn the liturgy of our tradition, they’ll participate with both Keva (chanting the prayers) and with Kavannah (what the prayers mean to them). Our school will also have a library program to facilitate intergenerational learning and a music program focusing on Jewish folk songs and some new and creative tunes currently used in reform shuls around the country.
On August 28th at 6PM we will have an informational session on Zoom so parents can meet Arava and Rabbi Jules and learn more about our school.
Please visit the Desert Outreach Synagogue website, https://www.desert-outreach-synagogue.com for registration forms and a link to the Zoom call.

If you have any questions about the Beit Sefer program, contact Arava at

We look forward to welcoming you and your family!

We honor and remember the lives of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust. Now, more than ever, we must speak up and speak out against antisemitism and all forms of hatred!

"If we wish to live and to bequeath life to our offspring, if we believe that we are to pave the way to the future, then we must first of all not forget."
Prof. Ben Zion Dinur, Yad Vashem, 1956

We will never forget!
