Arpit, a U.S. veteran, faced significant challenges after his service, struggling with substance abuse and homelessness.

His life began to change when he joined the Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program (HVRP) and reached out to our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program.

Our SSVF team responded quickly and with kindness, helping him secure permanent housing and assisted with purchasing household essentials, which provided the stability he desperately needed.

With a roof over his head, Arpit's life took a positive turn—he began working as a recreational therapist for the VA to help fellow veterans heal and find purpose.

Reflecting on his journey, Arpit is proud of how he overcame the challenges that once held him back, advising others to be open to change, willing to receive help, and honest with themselves.

Today, with a renewed sense of purpose, Arpit feels confident in his ability to set and achieve goals, understanding that "failure is a part of success."

Arpit's story is a powerful reminder not to give up and to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles!

Plan on seeing us here on September 21st!

We Do Recover! Come get connected to a community that is fun and believes recovery is possible.

Join us from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, at the Lake Redding Park Pavilion and Gazebo for FREE food, carnival snacks and family fun. Listen to live music and inspiring testimonials from people in recovery. And talk with substance use treatment providers at the event's resource fair.

This annual September event is organized in observance of Recovery Happens Month, a time when we celebrate the gains made by people in recovery, educate the community about treatment and unite to break down stigma surrounding substance use challenges.

Recovery Happens is made possible by a collaboration between local nonprofit treatment providers, sober living homes, health clinics and government agencies. The committee works throughout the year to plan the month’s festivities.

Need transportation? RABA rides are free until September 30. Routes 11 and 14 have stops on Benton Dr. that are around the corner from the Lake Redding Park Pavilion and Gazebo.

For questions regarding the event, reach out to Christopher Diamond at [email protected] or (530) 229-8484.

*Recovery Happens is a smoke-free event.

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we pause to remember the Veterans lost to addiction and bring awareness to the substance abuse crisis affecting the Veteran community.

This day serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges our heroes face and the critical need for continued support and resources.

How we help:

- In our Behavioral Health Centers, we provide individual and group counseling for drug and alcohol addiction.

- We help Veterans create a personalized 'Relapse Prevention Plan' to help Veterans identify behavioral patterns (such as isolation or displaced anger) from previous relapses so they can seek out help in the stages before relapsing.

-Our facilities and outreach staff are equipped with Naloxone (Narcan) for emergency use, and we conduct regular training to ensure that our team is prepared to respond effectively to overdose situations.

Today we share the success story of Christopher, a six year Army Veteran. 🏡

"I recently fell into some legal trouble that left me homeless. Nation’s Finest was there to give me housing when I needed it most.

They provided me with a warm bed to sleep in and plenty of food to eat. The staff there were wonderful and took my case management very seriously.

With their help I am now living in a permanent home, attending school and enjoying my hobbies in a space I can call my own. I can’t say enough about Nation’s Finest, they are a blessing."

Congratulations Christopher! We are so proud of all your accomplishments!

In honor of , we proudly share these heartwarming images of our Veterans and their best friends! 🐶

At Nation’s Finest, we see firsthand how impactful the unconditional love and emotional support that dogs provide is for Veterans especially to support with PTSD, depression, and anxiety.

Our behavioral health centers, transitional housing, and permanent housing are all welcoming of emotional support and service animals.

In some of our programs, we have wonderful volunteers who regularly bring therapy dogs to comfort our Veterans experiencing crisis.

We spent our morning doing some street outreach in partnership with Lassen County Housing and Grants Division. We started bright and early and managed to visit multiple homeless people at their camps. During today's exercise we were able to connect with a few veterans and educate them on some of the housing benefits and options they have available to them.

For National , we wanted to share the many ways our wonderful Case Managers help Veterans experiencing homelessness with their finances.

Every Veteran has different barriers and goals, so the way that we help is tailored to their individual needs!

-Budgeting: By reviewing a Veteran's income and expenses, we help them determine an appropriate price range for housing options.

-Financial Education: We facilitate groups on money management and fraud prevention.

-Employment Services: We assist Veterans to find employment as increasing income is often a step towards permanent housing.

-Benefit Applications: We assist Veterans with applying for VA or Social Security Benefits if eligible.

-Credit Report Review: We assist clients with pulling their credit reports and identify ways to improve their score which will help with housing applications.

-Referrals to Services: We refer clients to legal resources for financial issues such as excessive child support or alimony. We provide referrals to financial counseling or fiduciary services if needed.

-Financial Accountability: Reviewing bank statements ensure Veterans are following their savings plan and can reveal reoccurring membership charges that the Veteran is unaware of and needs help cancelling.

For National Purple Heart Day, please join us in honoring the unwavering bravery and sacrifices of Veterans who were wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

As we reflect on their sacrifices, we not only remember the physical wounds they bear but also the emotional scars that may linger long after the battles have ended.

We are deeply grateful for their dedication to protecting our freedom. Today we honor their courage, resilience, and strength.

In honor of National Hire a Veteran Day, we’re proud to highlight Michael's employment success story!

Facing the challenges of homelessness and job searching, Michael reached out to us for help. Thanks to his determination and the support from our employment services, he found a wonderful role at a doggy daycare company!

Not only does this job allow Michael to work with dogs every day, but it also gives him the joy of bringing his own pup with him to work! 🐶

At Nation’s Finest, we aim to equip Veterans with the skills and resources they need to secure meaningful employment and achieve lasting stability. Our employment services include helping Veterans find suitable job openings, assistance crafting professional resumes, and providing encouragement during the employment search process.

Yesterday one of our Outreach Specialists received a call for aid from some of our partners in Siskiyou County to bring up some supplies for the pet evacuation center that has been set up due to the Shelly Fire. After a short time they were able to make contact with Our Heroes Dreams and coordinate pickup and delivery of the requested items. It was the existence of a strong partnership with this agency that made fulfilling this request on such a short notice even possible. Thank you for placing your trust in us to help!

Kurt and his best friend🐶, Jacks, came to Nation's Finest due to being unable to find stable, dog-friendly housing. Our team provided help to find housing that fit both of their needs!

If you know a struggling to find housing due to their pet or service animal, please have them contact Nation's Finest for support! We have Housing Locators and programs like Landlord Incentives which can aid your housing search.

Additionally, our residential shelters DO allow service animals and emotional support animals, so it is not a barrier to receiving assistance! https://nationsfinest.org/our-services/
