June 19 is Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day). Schools and the district office will be closed.

This day commemorates the events of June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans that the Civil War had ended and they were free from slavery. To learn more about Juneteenth and its history, visit: juneteenth.com

Eid al-Adha begins June 16 and ends June 17. It is the second and one of the most important holidays celebrated in Islam. The observance honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of obedience to Allah’s command. Muslims celebrate the holiday by exchanging greetings and gifts, as well as offering special prayers to Allah.

Buddha's Birthday, or Buddha Day, is May 15. It is a Buddhist festival that is celebrated in East Asia and South Asia commemorating the birth of the Prince Siddhartha Gautama, later known as Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Traditions vary depending on the country, but many Buddhists typically recreate his first bath by pouring water or sweetened tea over a statue of the infant. People also recite the sutras and light incense at the temple.
