We had a great 1st Day ! Students are excited for the journey ahead ! 🚀
Kindergarten here we come ! We had a great first day of new smiles and reuniting friendship hugs! 🤩🐨
Meet Mrs. Mayela! A native of Mexico City, she initially embarked on a career in medicine, earning certification as a physician with a focus on hospital nutrition and eating disorders. Recently, Mrs. Mayela expanded her professional horizon by completing a Master’s in Education at City University in Seattle, where she earned endorsements in Elementary Education and Multilingual Education. Her passion for fostering educational growth led her to the Issaquah School District, where she is committed to ensuring that all her students feel supported, challenged, and engaged, while celebrating their diverse cultural backgrounds.
Now at Global Idea School, Mrs. Mayela is excited to continue helping students grow and to impart her deep appreciation for the Spanish language, recognizing its value in fostering cross-cultural communication and expanding global perspectives. 🌎
We are thrilled to have her on our Team! 💫
🌍✨ Meet Ms. Iris! With a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Elementary Education from Western Washington University, she’s certified to teach K-8 in Washington State. Her journey took her to Taiwan on a Fulbright grant, where she immersed herself in bilingual education and CLIL methods. 📚🇹🇼
Afterward, Ms. Iris pursued a Master’s in Early Language Education for Intercultural Communication at the University of Eastern Finland, co-authoring a thesis on global citizenship in education. She also contributed to developing a global citizenship curriculum for university students. 🌏✈️
Now back in the US, Ms. Iris has taught in the Issaquah and Lake Washington School Districts and is thrilled to start her new role at G.I.S. She looks forward to continuing to learn and grow as an educator. Ms. Iris hopes to foster an attitude of lifelong learning, determination and creativity within her students. In addition, she aims to encourage them to take ownership of their learning and embrace their potential in all aspects of life.
We are thrilled to have her on our Team!

We’re incredibly fortunate to have a green pathway behind the school that links directly to the Sammamish River Trail! This pathway is ideal for class excursions, whether it’s a short outing or a longer trip. Being outdoors opens up a whole new world of learning opportunities for our students, encouraging curiosity, exploration and appreciation for nature. No matter the season, our outdoor classroom is much loved by our students!

Every Tuesday, students have art class. They dive into the lives of various artists and engage in projects inspired by their work. They explore fundamental art principles, experiment with different techniques, and channel their creativity in remarkable ways! As you scroll, you will see 3rd and 4th graders working on the stage production for their upcoming school play!
We’re thrilled to receive such positive feedback. Thank you for being part of our journey!
Emphasizing a global perspective is fundamental to our philosophy. We achieve this through a multifaceted approach, including inter-grade activities that promote collaboration, the celebration and study of customs and holidays from around the world, and the encouragement of open-mindedness and consideration of alternative viewpoints. Additionally, students engage in learning through projects, thematic inquiries, and problem-solving processes that connect real-life experiences to their education. With a vast library available in both English and Spanish, students expand their horizons and deepen their understanding of the world!
Kindergarten students have been learning the letter Ñ in Spanish so we decided to teñir (dye) shirts! Students listened, followed instructions, and interacted all in Spanish! We had a blast !
Happy Friday!
Behind every smile in the classroom lies countless hours of dedication and preparation. Thank you, teachers, for bringing positivity and passion every day!
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

Another great day for the Kindergarten students! We learned about Passover…Chag Sameach, to those who celebrate! Students learned the story behind Passover, traditional celebrations, and one students shared how her family celebrates the holiday.
“The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people.” At Global Idea School, students explore diverse traditions from around the world, learning about their relationship to all things in the world.
In Computer Science, students got to learn and see first-hand something that has been in space! Dove-2 is an Earth observation satellite launched as part of a private, commercial, space-based, remote sensing system, licensed to collect images of the Earth. It is currently undertaking a mission in a 575 km circular orbit at an inclination of 64.9 degrees. There are over 200 dove-2 satellites around the globe, taking pictures every day of each square meter on earth. So cool!
Students planted seeds today. Once these seeds grow into starter plants (or baby plants), they will be moved to our G.I.S garden! 🌱🌻🥕🥒🌷🥬
Happy Earth Day!
Happy Earth Day from Global Idea School! 🌎 Stay tuned for more Earth loving activities from our students!

It's been an exhilarating yet very busy week, so discovering this heartfelt wish from one of our Kindergarten students fills us with immense joy! 💚
Happy Friday!
In Computer Science, students have been learning how to use the software Xtool to design an image of their choosing. Then , with the help of their teacher, they used a P2 Co2 laser cutter to engrave and cut the designs. This laser cutter has the power to cut up to 1 inch of wood! Students learned the difference between vector and bitmap images and were delighted to see their designs come to life!
Check out of the laser cutter at work in our Stories!
