Part ✌🏽 MY BIRTH STORY

Around 5 pm I felt like I needed to push. I had never been in that state of mind before. It was an overwhelming sensation. Yet, another couple of hours passed and nothing. I was in the tub still laying on my side. Both midwives had my legs as I was laying sideways in the birthing tub that I had been in since 9 am. Ivan was near my head. I told him I needed him at my legs. I had him grab one of my legs to help give the counter pressure to push. He originally didn’t want to see “down there.” I think he was scared. I’ll never forget that first push though after he was holding one of my legs. I felt a contraction coming on and he lifted my leg and cheered me on. “I see the baby’s head, oh my god it see it, this is so awesome. Sabrina you can do it.” It was the first time in almost 15 hours that I felt like I could do it. Ivan was my motivation. He told me I was so close. I labored in this position for a while. In my head I kept giving myself “three more contractions and if baby doesn’t come then the midwives will help me figure it out.” Those three contractions came, I gave myself another couple contractions. Baby wasn’t coming in this position.

MY 💎 BIRTH 💎 STORY
In honor of motherhood monday I wanted to share with you my birth story. I always knew I wanted a homebirth. To be honest looking back I was hopeful. I was never scared. I was never anxious. It was ready to experience it all and delve deeper into a different realm of my body, of my soul, of my being. My birth story is emotional, it’s powerful, and it’s beautiful.

On the night of my “guess date” I started having contractions. It was about 12 mid night. I had imagined I would sleep through the first couple of hours and wake up miraculously at 5 cm dilated. Oh boy, that was not the case. By 3 am I was in the shower trying to relieve the pain in my sacrum. I woke Ivan up to let him know that I needed his security, his presence. I labored in the showered for an hour or so and told ivan to call our doula. Our doula picked up the phone and asked the questions. “How far apart are contractions and how is Sabrina doing? If you need me I’ll be right there” I was having contractions every 5 mins or so lasting for a minute. They were getting pretty intense. At 5 am we texted the doula to come. I remember putting on my prettiest robe and my most cute bra and fixing my hair in a perfectly cute bun. I wanted to look back on photos and remember a glamorous birth. Again, I was I fooled.

The doula arrived and started doing different comfort measures. Some time elapsed. She did some hip squeezes, we bounced on the ball, ivan and I laid in bed and held hands. I had always imagined this part going quickly however the minutes felt like hours and the contractions felt overwhelming. I had studied hypnobirthing so I had played a couple meditation guides. After 10 mins of it playing I kindly looked at ivan and said “turn that s**t off.” It was then that we changed gears. I had prepared a playlist of all my favorite songs. Ivan wasn’t even allowed to put any songs on this list. This list was a representation of me.
