Earlham student Mariela Camacho has been a wonderful summer intern with Amigos. She taught English to eager learners, helped with the Amigos Career Exploration Summer Camp, assisted Spanish-speaking families in registering their children for Richmond Community Schools, and provided quality time with youth. Congratulations to Ana Aquino-Rojas on her new position as Admissions Counselor at IU East! Ana, an RHS and IU East graduate, has been involved with Amigos for many years. Her bilingual skills will be a wonderful asset as she meets with students and families in Indiana high schools

Today, the Amigos Career Exploration Summer Camp had an amazing time at Hayes Arboretum. Jeni Braun, a Naturalist, explained the role of a naturalist—someone who observes nature and educates others about it. She guided us on a sensory-rich hike through the forest where we saw, touched, tasted, heard, and smelled the natural world. 🌳 We also enjoyed the activities and exhibits at the Nature Center. A big thank you to Charlie for driving us to and from the camp!

🌟 Day 5 - Our Amigos Career Exploration Summer Camp continues!
Today, we traveled to Indianapolis for an unforgettable experience! Our students participated in a live TV show and toured WISH-TV, visited Juncos Hollinger Racing to see racing cars being built, and enjoyed a delicious lunch at La Guanajuato Restaurant/Grocery Store.

🌟 Day 4 - Thank you to Miller Farm at Earlham College for hosting the Amigos Summer Career Exploration Camp! It was an amazing morning learning about the farm and how it works. We had a tour of the community gardens, learned about medicinal wild plants, explored composting, saw the tomato plants, visited the chickens and horses, enjoyed an art project, and had a special treat with 6-day-old baby chicks that we could hold. The Miller Farm staff prepared a delicious vegetarian meal for lunch.
Thank you to Lucy, Sarah, Eric, Moises, and Elijah for planning this visit, to Pat for bringing the baby chicks, to Lily for the plant tour and art, and to Charlie for safely transporting us in the Amigos bus. Special thanks also to Jim and Miranda from Indiana Earth Charter in Indianapolis for joining us in the morning, and to Alison for coming out as well.

Hi, my name is Mariela. I am 20, born and raised in Costa Rica. I currently double major in Peace & Global studies and Neuroscience with a minor in Creative Writing. I had the privilege of learning english since I was a kid and it has become a passion to do my best in collaborating for Hispanic adults to learn English.
