GSOR will be meeting at the Arlington Library this Saturday. This Library is located at 9556 Magnolia Ave., just south of Van Buren Boulevard. Our meeting is scheduled from 11:30 until 1:30 and we plan to honor the men in our lives at our June 11 meeting. Therefore, we would like you to bring a photo or a story that you can share about that special man in your life. Hope to see you there!

04/09/2022

I would like to thank all of the people who joined us at our meeting today. Dee and I had were elated to see that so many people 😊were able to make it.

I would like to express a big thank you to Barbara Freeman for sharing two special members of her family today. I enjoyed hearing about Barbara's uncle who was a member of the black baseball league in Louisiana and the story of how he obtained a very memorable pair of shoes. She also shared a photo of her grandfather, a very handsome and popular man in his neighborhood, and how his being a plumber secured his standing within the community.

I would also like to give a big thank you to Marilyn Lewis for sharing the link and special hints to using the 1950 census. She told us:

1. The link to the census is: 1950census.archives.gov
2. Hint: Make a list of possible "heads of households" and their locations to expedite your search

Remember to dress up as one of your ancestors and come prepared to tell us all about him or her on our May 14 meeting.

Kathleen Fernandes will be speaking to our group this Saturday, about GedMatch the free website that provides tools for comparing your DNA with other users on the site. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to learn how to better utilize your DNA results!

01/06/2019

Our next meeting on January 12th is rapidly approaching. Keeping with the chosen DNA topic for this year, our next speaker, Linda Serna, will be speaking to us about "What Do You Do When Your DNA Doesn't Match Your Paper Trail? I'm sure that most of us who have had our DNA tested have come across one or two of these anomalies in our research. So in honor of this topic I would like for you to briefly share this discovery with the rest of the club but please don't supply a resolution--where you believe this person connects to your family. If we have time at the end of Linda's talk we can share our findings.
