"The iconic American painter, Edward Hopper, has been quoted as saying, 'All I really want to do is paint light on the side of a house.' I feel that tendency, too, although my interest includes boats and fishermen. But the red-roof lighthouse buildings on Monhegan, dazzling white against the greys and greens and blues of the landscape still inspire me most of all. And along with the pure whites on the sun-struck sides of buildings, there are shadows, revealing form. Each year, white seems brighter, and colors more vibrant. The small islands of Maine feed my artist’s soul. Endless light. Endless summer." ~ Melissa
