This solitary Portland Maine artist retreated from the early praises of NYC as a young man. He chose to return to Maine, to his beloved birth city by the sea, and has been literally paining in the garret ever since.

Dear Friends Of Harbor Square Gallery,
Even now, after 43 years, it does not seem quite real. Since I first came to Camden and encountered the coast of Maine in 1979 the journey has felt guided somehow, the next step laid out for me as in a lucid dream. The clues have been there. Where to go next? How to proceed?
After 15 years of growing the gallery in rental space on Camden Harbor, the opportunity presented itself to actually begin to own this gorgeous building in the heart of Rockland, to nurture and define this lovely old place from within. For 28 years it has been our constant endeavor. Gallery, sanctuary, museum, refuge, oasis, a place of beauty, the storm’s eye. All of these and much more it has been to so many. Now it is time to return to the beginning place, Camden and Bayview St.
Harbor Square Gallery will close its doors in Rockland later in May. Work has already begun to prepare our new home at 37 Bayview for its reopening later this summer. Please keep in touch and follow the progress. Prayers and affirmations are welcome.
On Friday evening, May 5, from 5-8 we will host our LAST FIRST FRIDAY at 374 Main St. We look forward to seeing our friends, sharing some hugs and laughter, and maybe a tear or two. There is no way any of this could ever have occurred without the countless hours invested in this dream by so many - staff, artists, and patrons through the years. Some are still here with us. Many are not. Thank you is not enough to say but it must suffice. For now. Until then, please be well. Walk in beauty.
Tom O’Donovan.
The Gallery — Harbor Square Gallery The gallery will be open during First Friday May 5th, 5-8pm and then officially closed at the end of May while we move into our new location.

Our Story
Welcome!
Doing the business of Art making and Art selling is our yoga, to explore that live edge between complacency and striving, to trust in the work and it's worthiness, it's value, it's price. Our goal is to do business with openness and honesty. There is no margin for discount or negotiation built into the numbers you see on our walls. The actual price is what you see, the same for all, old friends and new. If need be we will be happy to discuss extended payment plans, layaways, or any other means that might allow a work to be collected. We do not negotiate the prices as marked. We thank you for your understanding and support of this beautiful enterprise.
You are invited to visit often and stay long. The Muir Garden, which has graced our rooftop since 2006 is an oasis of trees and sculpture, a floating park, a place apart. Please feel free to bring a friend or book anytime the gallery is open. Sit by falling water, under a tree, in the sea air. Be well.
