With Black Friday now in effect, while grabbing those doorbuster deals, there is an increase in certain vulnerabilities and threats in personal and public safety. So let's be smart in both our purchase decisions AND our environment by being prepared and proactive!
When shopping, it's important to remember:
1️⃣ Never leave your purchases or any other valuables in sight in your parked car. Lock your items in the trunk if possible, or cover them up so they're not inviting to potential thieves.
2️⃣ Have your keys in hand before walking to your car. Coming home late from shopping or walking in dimly lit areas can sometimes attract unwanted attention.
3️⃣ Be a defensive driver. Roads will be busier, and drivers may be distracted, so it's essential to observe at all times, anticipate other driver’s actions, and always ensure you have a way out if things go wrong.
4️⃣ Keep yourself hydrated and nourished throughout the day. Shopping marathon is a real thing! Carry a reusable water bottle and some healthy snacks to maintain your energy levels.
The spirit of the season is all about joy, sharing, and caring - let's extend that to our shopping habits for a seamless, safe holiday season.
Stay Safe, Stay Alert, Shop Smart!

Congratulations to Engine 01 “A” Shift Captain Rodney Caudle, Firefighters Clay Crawford, Collin Taylor, and Zach Yates as well as crew members from Rockwall County EMS for a job well done!
On June 16, 2023 at 3:05 PM the Rockwall Fire Department responded to a reported unconscious person in the 500 block of Ridgeview Drive. The crew from Engine 1 “A” shift arrived alongside a crew from Rockwall County EMS to find a 62 year old male patient laying on the ground. He was pulseless and not breathing. The patient was rapidly assessed, and treatment began in the form of CPR, airway insertion, and Lifepak application. After two shocks from the Lifepak there was a return of spontaneous circulation. He was transported to an area hospital by Rockwall County EMS where he received additional treatment and was released only days later with no neurological deficits.
Also, on September 29, 2023 at 9:15 PM the Rockwall Fire Department responded to a medical emergency in the 400 block of E. Bourn St. The crew from Engine 1 “A” shift arrived simultaneously with a crew from Rockwall County EMS to find an elderly female bleeding profusely from a dialysis shunt that had become disconnected. Shortly after a tourniquet was applied in an attempt to control the bleeding the patient stopped breathing and became pulseless. CPR was started, and the patient was moved to the ambulance where additional treatment was provided. Due to the rapid intervention provided by both Rockwall County EMS and the crew from Engine 1 “A” shift the patient regained their pulse and began communicating in the back of the ambulance while being transported to an area hospital.
The crews from Rockwall County EMS and Engine 1 “A” shift are to be commended for their professionalism and coordinated, life-saving efforts.

One of our Frequently Asked Questions:
🤔 "If an emergency vehicle is approaching what should I do?" 🤔
State laws — and common sense — dictate that vehicles yield to emergency vehicles that are operating their emergency lights and siren.
When it’s safe, slow down, pull over to the right and stop. Emergency vehicle operators are taught to pass on the left whenever possible when responding in an emergency mode.
When it’s safe, slow down, pull over to the right and stop.
However, there are circumstances where that may not be possible (e.g., if you car is already stopped, and you don’t have anywhere to pull over). Simply stay put until the emergency vehicle goes around you.
If you are blocking the route of the emergency vehicle, and you are able to pull ahead and over into a clear area, use your turn signal to indicate your intentions and proceed at a safe speed.
Never slam on the brakes and stop in the middle of the road when you see apparatus approaching. Make no sudden moves.
If an emergency vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction, you should pull over to the right and stop. You have no idea if they are proceeding down the road, or are planning on turning into a driveway or intersection right in front of you.

Don't be concerned whether you donate blood daily. Contrary to popular belief, blood donation is not linked to an increased risk of death or cancer. You will be saving many lives by giving blood.
Someone in the United States requires a blood transfusion every two seconds, and a single donor will save up to three lives. Furthermore, donating blood several times a year is safe, and institutions use sterile equipment for each donor to reduce the risk of infection.
That said, not everyone can become a blood donor. Certain medical conditions, such as dementia or HIV infection, can make you unable to donate blood.

Pittsburgh EMS whisked Mahoney away to UPMC Presbyterian, where doctors placed stents in his heart within 45 minutes. Mahoney doesn't remember anything after arriving at the exhibit and chatting with a security guard until he awoke the next day. Blame it on the "widow maker," a heart attack caused by an arterial blockage that can be fatal in minutes.

In an emergency, this Vial of Life will speak when you can’t.
For example, emergency personnel would be able to see what your last EKG looked like. This gives them critical information on any current heart event you may be having. When you get to the hospital...they want to know more; what insurance do you have, etc. These can be very annoying questions when you don't feel well.
Who you are...what medications you are using...what illnesses you have...who can they call to support you...your normal blood pressure...are you wearing hearing or seeing devices...do you speak English...what language do you speak?
Having this information readily accessible will empower first responders to administer the most effective care protocols faster.

Teach kids that a 911 emergency is when someone needs help right away because of an injury or an immediate danger. Kids may feel scared or nervous if they have to call 911. Tell them that the emergency operators who answer the phone talk to a lot of kids who are nervous or worried when they call. Make sure your kids know that even though they shouldn't give personal information to strangers, it's OK to trust the 911 operator.
