Some IMPORTANT dates are on the way. Take a look below 🖤💛
Hello, this is Timothy Mudd, principal at Parker Middle School, with your weekly message.
EOG testing begins next week. The 8th grade Science EOG will be Tuesday, May 21st, the 6-8th grade Math EOG will be Wednesday, May 22nd, and the 6-8th grade ELA EOG will be Friday, May 24th. May 28, 29, and 30th are make-up exam days. Students not proficient on the EOGs will have to retest the week of June 3rd. Student success on the EOGs will be the determinig factor in if the student is promoted to the next grade, so it is important that students do well.
Testing will begin each morning, so it is important that students arrive on time. No student can be admitted to the test session once it begins. Additionally, students cannot be checked out until the test session is over. Please remind your student that cell phones and electronic devices, including watches, fitness trackers, airpods, or any device with bluetooth capability is not allowed in the test session. These items should be left at home or given to the test administrator prior to testing to be locked away. Any student with an electronic device in the test session will result in a misadministration, receive a score of not proficient (meaning possible retention), and be suspended from school for the remainder of the school year.
We know EOG testing can be stressful for students. We simply ask that students do their best to exceed their personalized goal for each subject. If your student gets anxious about testing, remind them that a recent Harvard University study found that people who feel anxious during a test might actually do better if the students don't get concerned and remind themselves that the nervous feeling could be helping them do well. Students who were able to stay calm and remind themselves of this information scored 10-15% higher than other students.
Our students exceeded growth last year for the first time in school history and we want to continue that this year, so please discuss the importance of finishing the year strong and doing well on the EOGs with your students.
We thank you for your support and hope you have a great weekend!
