Here are some of our favorite NEW children’s book to come out this week! “A Mischief of Mice” by Christie Matheson is a clever story about collective pronouns for animals—fun!! A mischief of mice has gone missing and a scurry of squirrels 🐿️ are off to find them, encountering along the way a band of coyotes, a gaze of raccoons, a clutter of spiders, and more! It is not until they find a sleuth of bears to help do they find their little mice friends.

“Before the Ships” is a powerful new book by Maisha Osho and gorgeously illustrated by Candice Bradley. Most of us learn about Black History via civil rights and slavery, but in this book we see the rich history of Africa before the Transatlantic slave trade, the grandeur of African royalty and warriors like the Queen of Kush. Set to rhythmic and lyrical phrase, we move through history to the strength and power of modern-day Black people. Love this book! 💯💖

“You Stole My Name” by Dennis McGregor is the board book version of the adorable book that came out last summer, with the follow-up “You Stole My Name Too” published earlier this year. This sing-along book is perfect for littles aged 0-4 as an introduction to the animal kingdom. Love it. 🐸

For teens and advanced pre-teen readers, we recommend “Ami” the second installment of the Guardians of Dawn series by S. Jae Jones. “Zhara” wqs the first in the series, where a mysterious plague transforms magicians into monsters. In “Ami,” a teen must take care of her mentally ill father who has a dire prophecy. A magical corruptive force is ruining the land of the countryside and Ami & Zhara must journey to The Root of the World to seal the demon portal and restore balance. Love it! 📖💓 sjaejones
