Perfect pairing in every way.
Have a lovely !
Working on comes with its challenges, but also the opportunity for great rewards. This shady lady is one of our projects and it is coming along nicely! The exterior has been repainted and the interior Kitchen is taking shape! Come on in and see what’s happening…..
Some things take time. Just like this beautiful growing in at one of our fave clients’ house! And just like picking out all the right furnishings after the house remodel portion of the project was completed.
I still love the we selected for this . Getting to see the garden is icing on the cake!
3 days is nowhere near enough to explore . We have conquered quite a bit, but many of the museums will have to wait. The weather is so perfect, we have been spending a lot of our time outside…..the , maybe too many locations and right now, the , built later than , but with many similarities.
I took this photo in one of the many beautiful structures around the huge garden and grounds of the palace. It is in the schloss originally a hunting lodge built between 1734-1739.
This sunlit corner is a tiny glimpse of the smaller treasures to find here!
Moments in . …. We had thought about canceling our day in because of the all day rain forecast. So glad we decided to risk it! We rode the funicular up the hill, hiked up the and back down to the town. It was mostly sunny , stunning views, loads of wildflowers and waterfalls all along the way. I cannot express how green it is in Austria!
We walked though every cobbled path and street, visited the church and graveyard (the and the Hallstatt graveyards were both full of flowers of every sort covering each grave. There is nothing like it in the USA. Each one lovingly composed by a family, each one different and obviously done with fond remembrance.
As soon as our were done we found a place to weather the rain downpour and have a late lunch. Total comfort food: with cheese, better than any homemade macaroni and cheese ever!!!!
After lunch we walked along the lake making friends with the swans and back to the car to head back to for our final night in
is perhaps the most charming place I have ever been ! The countryside was as green as and the scenery perhaps as dramatic as . As easy as it was to lose ourselves wandering everywhere through this bewitching village, the winding cobblestone streets and would always lead us back to the .
If you ever to , I would strongly encourage you to venture outside of the beautiful city of (captivating in itself!) There is so much to see in Czechia!
Arrived in on Friday. !!!!
I am in the midst of planning our next . And of course that causes bouts of and of past trips. is the number one for my work as a . Is it yours?
May the best day of your past be the worst day of your future.
! 🍀
I have been absent of late. Life is fragile and fleeting, and I have been spending my time with my mom who is fading away before my eyes. Spring is here. We hold hands and look deep into each other’s eyes to remember the love.
Final 2021 . Happy 2022!
A week to relax with each other and our pretty Nullah before starting the .
We are lucky to get the spend the week with our daughter, , who takes such great pictures! I never like pictures of myself and it seems she is able to take some that I really love! And this is Tim, who I met 32years ago on New Year’s Eve. Very grateful today.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
Is anyone else still wrapping? , business is brisk!!!! , lots of last minute Holiday preparations still underway!!!! BTW…… ……. has great ribbon and the has awesome wrapping paper year round, but especially during the Holidays!
I hope you all enjoy your time with family and friends this weekend!!!!
……… and oh so appreciated! Not only do we love tangerines anytime but especially during the Holidays! I use them to and then we eat the after (and during if I’m honest!) all season!
We received these beauties (I have yet to see such rich orange color in the shops) from my husbands sister and family on a visit last weekend. There is nothing better than sharing simple gifts together.
Delicious!!!
Cheers to simple pleasures this Holiday Season!
………Happy Holidays everyone!
…….Is everyone ready to have a this weekend?!
Last weekend, we (my husband and daughters) took a over to to a at . If you have not been, it is an old warehouse district that has been transformed into breweries, distilleries, restaurants and shops.
So anyway…..the drinks at .sebastopol are worth the drive! The food is delish and beautiful as well!
We were so inspired, we picked up a “cocktail kit” from to take home so we can make our own this weekend! Spirit Works Distillery had a tasting room where they feature their spirits and also special cocktails . They offer the ingredients in a cocktail kit complete with the recipe. Awesome !
So enjoy some ! (But don’t drink and drive…..stay home and make your own!🥂)
A place to think deep thoughts….
We did this office awhile back and I still love it! I designed the arched with a and . Our client had a desk which was built by her father in a mid century style, and it added a great contrast in style.
It still makes me think of things …….and with the upon us….it is the perfect time to do it.

Wishing you all a delicious day of reflection and thanks! 🍁🍂🦃
A new coming together! There’s nothing better than when a client and I get each other!! So much fun!
Reservations for a wine tasting in a are short supply if you decide to visit on short notice these days. But we do seem to be lucky in finding the most perfect places! we spent the happiest spur of the moment afternoon on a chilly Autumn day we could have asked for! Whetstone is located on Atlas Peak Road in an original stone building built in the late 1800’s, so atmosphere was in ready supply. The family run business is a small and intimate affair with beautiful boutique wines and is wonderfully off the beaten path from the bigger crowded options on the busy highways in the valley. This place is a very special find…..lovely, cozy, beautifully designed, relaxing, charming….shall I go on? And with such friendly personal service, special delicious wine, a warm fire burning, a chance to meet the the owners/wine makers, and hang out with Ace, the mascot retriever…we found ourselves in a little bit of heaven. Thank you to Jenna, Jamey and Michelle for the wonderful afternoon!
Happy Fall everyone! I love this time of year. It is a time when the heat of Sacramento summers changes to cool, clean, crisp air. When I first moved here, many years ago now, it was the trees that got me thinking I might be able to plant my own roots here as well. There is nothing more glorious than walking through the Sacramento when they are aflame with . It is the season for with family and friends. And taking time to reflect on the last year and look forward to the next….and start planning to make it better.
Here at KDI, there are some exciting changes happening. I look forward to introducing you to our newest brilliant team member in the days to come! There is a summer series of bike tours where I live that highlights all of the cool new architectural projects underway in the area and we ride every time! The last tour included a project that is transforming the historic Eastern Star building in into what will be the new Hyatt House Hotel. The mastermind behind the project is Roger Hume of who has a history of projects throughout California. We got to peek inside and see what’s going on behind the scenes right now and listen to all of the plans in store for this beauty. We plan to be regular guests enjoying cocktails in what promises to be the coziest/chicest bar in Sacramento! With twin fireplaces on either side of the main lobby, grand staircase and luxury rooms with brick walls and great views, we will be there as soon as it opens! For more info, check in ! Or just google Hyatt House Hotel Sacramento for press updates.
FINALLY!!!! We have a , beautiful !!! It was way overdue and we are so excited to share it with you! Some new projects you may not have seen, and some of our old favorites and lots of new information. Link: www.katiedenham.com Come on by and say hello!
I have been more than a little in love with lately, especially with happening. I just added a pair of these pretty pillows to my covered sofa. and and ready for stories in front of the fire….. and sort of perfect all year round, but especially the !
I have always been drawn to for my own homes. But in the last few years, I have seen so many designers using moody colors, lots of texture, warm colored furnishings. The coziness and cocoon feeling of it all, especially during this time, has captivated my heart! Designers like , , and others have been so inspiring to me. And while I will always love white, I am considering taking the plunge and making my Dining Room into a with a cozier, moodier vibe with books and comfortable lounge seating. I mean really….we rarely use this space as it is now, and a library/dining combo has always been in my radar.
What do you think? Yes or no?
So looking forward to working on another project! I began cataloging images of the amazing we will be . It is full of details I have never seen before and I can’t wait to get started! I will keep you all updated on progress!! I think you all know I love a good so get ready for that too!
Happy little moment that reminded me of in without leaving home.
is coming to a close. Many kids are heading back to school. I am seeing lots of little soccer kids and parents at the coffee shops having a quick bite before their games. Folks taking their evening walks with their dogs when the day is finally cool enough.
But it is different. There are worries we are not used to. And we need to navigate life in new ways.
I took this photo of what looks like a beautiful, picturesque carefree in early August. And it was a wonderful yearly getaway with a couple BFF’s!
But what you cannot see…..is the other shore….. of what is not the sea….but Lake Tahoe. The smoke from the at this point was almost too heavy for us to be outdoors.
So many things don’t show in a photo. The context is not readily apparent. There are things in the periphery that are not captured.
There were dear friends having to evacuate this fire and others this summer. It was worse than last year and predicted to be typical in the coming years.
And such is the way of life. We often don’t see the huge effort others face in their daily lives. Especially those on the front lines.
I want to thank the tirelessness and dedication of those who fight the fires, fight the pandemic, fight for our kids to be safe in their schools, fight for equal rights, fight for our safety, fight to put food on their family’s tables……and fight for the earth. And they keep doing so even when they are at their wits’ end. Even when others make it so hard they want to give up.
I know I can find new ways to make it easier for them. I hope we all can.
