As the deployment is winding down and we get ready to say goodbye to our first round of Soldiers leaving, I wanted to reflect on all the experiences we’ve had and let the Soldiers, Families, and Friends of Hatchet Troop know what a great group of Officers and Soldiers we have in this unit and highlight their accomplishments.

The Medical Platoon is led by 1LT Drake and SSG Fabian. 1LT Drake is the most intelligent, organized, and efficient Officer in the Troop and excelled as the SQDN Medo on this deployment. SSG Fabian, a great NCO with tons of experience as a medic and mountain instructor has absolutely risen to the challenge of being a PSG on this deployment. Right by their side was CPT Thibodeau and CPT Przekaza, two of the finest Physicians Assistants the Army has to offer who completely personify taking care of Soldiers. They have managed two sections, one at Camp Nothing Hill led by SGT Kennedy and the other at Camp Novo Selo led by SSG Dennis. SGT Kennedy, our CNH NCOIC, has shown how valuable she is to this organization from taking care of over 100 Soldiers, to becoming the biggest mentor in the Squadron, to running a real world MEDEVAC. Along with her is SGT Johnson, Assassin Troops Senior Medic, who really impressed me this rotation with his professionalism during their mission to North Macedonia to help assist our SPP partners. Also we have SPC Hovendick who has spent every day of this deployment showing why he is ready for more responsibility and progress with the CAV. Finally at CNH is SPC Brown a young, hardworking, dedicated and resilient Soldier who has probably learned more than anyone else here on the deployment. At CNS, SSG Dennis (rhode islander #2) has taken every challenge I have thrown at him and exemplifies every value I have as a Troop Commander. SGT Lubitow has spent more time and effort improving his peers and unit than anyone else here. His paramedic course he has been running here will pay dividends for years to come in this organization. SGT Dieringer is the smartest, most professional NCO in the formation he has done so much to improve the SQDN and KFOR through his CLS classes and really is a great leader and instructor. Finally is SGT Webster, a hardworking NCO who always puts the unit and those around him first. He was our go to guy for all missions for HHT because we knew he would get it done and get it done to standard. We wish him the best as he goes into the ING.

Our S1 Section led by CPT Finamore and SSG Berard is the best personnel section I have seen in my almost ten years in the Army. The hard work and dedication these two leaders have shown along with the countless hours that SGT Basic, SPC Hays, and SPC Modugno have spent doing awards, promotions, reenlistments, pay issues, leave and pass and too much more to mention has impacted more Soldiers than anyone else on this deployment.

Our S2 Section led by CPT Zyko and SSG Dieppa have impacted everything this organization has touched in Regional Command East and has done more to better prepare this unit for success during this rotation than anyone else in Kosovo. SSG Rouelle has used his incredible knowledge and experience to provide this team much needed insight and we are going to truly miss him as he moves on to his next position. SPC Whitehouse has been the backbone of that team and proved that he is ready to be an NCO and we really look forward to see this Soldier grow and progress in his Army career.

Our S3 Operations Section led by MAJ Clark and SGM Severin who have created a high functioning and efficient team of NCOs and Officers, many of whom didn’t know each other a year ago. CPT Kennedy and CPT Andreozzi are excellent officers and going to be great Troop Commanders very soon. You guys are great friends and I appreciate everything you’ve done for this Troop over the past year. 1LT Pearson our Chemical Officer and Safety Officer has brought more positivity, enthusiasm, and commitment to his craft then anyone else I have ever seen and is an example to low density MOS everywhere in the Brigade. 1LT Bujwid, 1LT Meyer, and 1LT Devito have been great additions to the Troop and have shown what flawless planners, battle captains, and project officers they are. Then there is our Battle NCO’s SFC Grenier, SSG Tapley, SSG Ajmo, SSG Moreman, SSG Deming, and SGT Todd. This group of professionals has tracked every movement, report, sigact, that has happened in RC-East. They excelled in their jobs and worked long hours day in day out in quiet professionalism.

The S4 Shop led by 1LT Brown (rhode islander #3) and SFC Giroux are the best team we have in the troop. They will be successfully deploying us back home soon and have made logistics here in Kosovo here effortless handing the most complex scenarios with ease. CW3 Adamczak and SSG Chaloux have been such added assets and have turned out to be force multipliers in the troop from dispatching vehicles, fixing trucks (even a boat) and tracking maintenance to such a level that you have taken so much off off the plates of busy troop CDRs, XOs, and 1SGs. And finally SPC Burdick, our jack of all trades, who serves as our armorer, supply specialist, assistant mayor all of which she has taken head on and excelled at. I can’t think of a Soldier that epitomizes constantly improving herself and the organization and we are so excited to see her succeed in D Co.

The S6 shop led by 1LT Bombard and SSG Ringey and have created the tightest knit group of Soldiers we have in the troop. SGT Taylor and Mccauley are two great NCOs that have made a difference day in and day out. SGT Taylor has done more to streamline digital systems here on Camp Novo Selo than anyone else here. SGT McCauley has created one of the best communications overlays I have ever seen through his hard work on countless commo recons. SPC Benoit, SPC Petersen, and SPC Brook are excellent Soldiers always making us better as an organization. SPC Benoit maintains and tracks property at the same or even better level than most NCOs and Officers. SPC Petersen is always seen running around fixing computers, printers and anything else she can find. This has been a challenging deployment for you all but have really excelled here in KFOR.

The PAO/UMT team led by 1LT Motley and SSG Pendl have increased my pride in this organization more than anyone else here. 1LT Motley, a signal officer has taken the challenge of running our public affair team and excelled constantly updating our social media and highlight everything our Soldiers have accomplished over the past year. SSG Pendl, a true expert makes the best products from videos to photographs and delivers the level of excellence we look for in this Troop. And we have SPC Bryant, our Chaplains Assistant. During this deployment we havent had a chaplain but that never slowed SPC Bryant. His enthusiasm and ability to brighten our days has created an environment that has increased morale tremendously and we can’t thank him enough for everything he has done for us.

HHT HQ. 1SG Stewart, 1LT Cole, and SGT Menard, you guys have been my rock. We could not have done anything here without you. 1SG Stewart, our old school, tough as nails 1SG is the best leader I have served with and I couldn’t ask for a better NCO to be my partner in command. 1LT Cole our XO, is a superb officer with a great attitude and has fit right in during this deployment. He has taken so much off my plate as a commander and ran this troop to its fullest potential. SGT Menard our Supply Sergeant took over a tough job after years of neglect and really turned it around. His hard work, common sense approach, and ability to get stuff done has been un-matched and I’m not sure it ever will be.

Finally, MAJ Fike, CSM Mulcahey and MAJ Cosentino. The motivation, purpose and direction you provided during the past 11 months has turned what could have been a boring, tedious, and long deployment into an experience that I know has changed the lives of all our Soldiers. I can’t thank you enough for the effort and leadership you have shown us and for making this one of the most important and valuable experiences of our lives.

Hatchet Troop, I can’t thank you enough for everything you and your families have done over this past year. I am extremely humbled to been a part of this deployment and excited to see all of you grow and excel in your next steps in life. You have made me prouder than you can imagine and there is no better group of Soldiers I could expect to deploy with. I wish you all the best. First Vermont!

Hatchet 6

Hatchet Troop had one hell of a day today. Today Hatchet Troopers qualified on their M4s followed by reflexive fire training. LT Bujwid and SSG Diepparios planned and executed a flawless range, demonstrating exactly what the Hatchet standard for planning and executing training looks like. Following our qualification, SSG Roulle, our newest promoted NCO led some of our Troopers in reflexive fire training to increase the lethality of Hatchet Troop. We couldn’t ask for a better day to train. Even after a long day at the range, our Operations Officers set the example by grinding out some gym time to close out the day. All around great day from the Troop. First Vermont!

Last week 2LT Motley was promoted by the The Adjutant General of the State of Connecticut to First Lieutenant. 1LT Motley is a CT National Guard Soldier that joined us on the deployment and currently serves as the Squadron Public Affairs Officer. 1LT Motley has been a great addition to the team and we are very proud of her hard work. Well deserved and congratulations 1LT Motley.

The great part of the KFOR mission is the opportunity to work with Soldiers from all around the world. The relationships we build here will directly impact missions down the line. Since being here, our medical platoon has worked with Oberwachtmeister Mark Eder from Austria who has been a great partner, resource, and friend to many of our medics. SPC Kayley Hays proudly represented the Troop and Squadron by completing the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. The GAFB is a challenging event hosted by our German Military Partners that tests a Soldier’s physical fitness, military skills, and marksmanship proficiency. SPC Hays is the first Soldier from the Troop to volunteer and complete the test. We are extremely proud to have her in the ranks as she continues to set the example for what it means to be a Hatchet Troop Soldier. Congratulations SPC Kayley Hays and keep up the good work!

Last week we had the opportunity to award one of our top performing Soldiers with the Army Achievement Medal. SPC Rachael Burdick has been an absolute team player helping out where ever need be. She has been doing a great job in the S4 shop, assisting both the post mayor and the supply NCO, as well as running our arms room. This award is much overdue and well deserved. Congratulations Rachael Elizabeth!

Over three days a lot of Headquarters Troop Soldiers were able to participate in the DANCON March. The DANCON march is 25km march with 22kg of weight that our Danish Partners host. The march has been a tradition since 1972 when the Danish Army was deployed to Cyprus. It was a great opportunity for our Soldiers to demonstrate there physical fitness and support the events of our Multi National Partners here in Kosovo.

Last week, one of Hatchet Troop’s own assisted in instructing one of our partners in the State Partnership Program, the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia. 1LT Matt Andreozzi of the operations section was selected to help plan, teach and oversee a week of instruction to our partners, instructing them on Cavalry and Reconnaissance doctrine and tactics. LT Andreozzi was recognized by Major General Jarrad U.S. Army Europe and Africa Deputy Commanding General for Army National Guard for his hard work.

Headquarters Troop CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) Soldiers 2LT Pearson and SSG Tapley along with Medic, SGT Dieringer conducted a joint chemical site inspection with our Italian and Hungarian partners.

NORTHERN SOLOMONS

The 172nd Infantry Regiment landed on New Georgia Island on July 2nd, 1943. The Regiment fought through invisible enemy attacks in the jungle, disease, fatigue, and the chaos of the jungle itself. After 27 days of bitter fighting to capture Munda Airfield, 1st Lt. Robert S. Scott, a platoon leader in C Company, was awarded the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. The First Vermont Regiment is proud of our heritage and we are humbled by the brave Troopers who came before us.
