🎉 Congratulations to our recent recipient, Mary Jo Shaver, RN, from the Intensive Care Unit at Mosaic Life Care at St. Joseph, Medical Center. The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. Last month, Mary Jo was nominated for going above and beyond for one of her patients. Mary Jo’s nomination reads:
“Our lives changed April 14 when our loved one became extremely ill in the ICU and unfortunately succumbed to his illness. However, while we grieve our loss, we are also so fortunate for the care and experience we had as a family. Mary Jo is a nurse we will never forget. From the time Mary Jo started her shift, she made sure she made us feel like our loved one was her only patient, even though we know she had others. The care that Mary Jo provided was nothing short of angelic. Mary Jo prayed with us every time a pastor came by, which was frequently. She spoke with the doctor for us every time we requested. She sat down at the bedside and talked with us, cried with us, hugged us, reassured us and advised us. Even though we both work in health care, being on the other side of things was very different for us. Even though we knew everything that was going on, we still needed the education and reassurance that she provided.
“Toward the final moments we had with our loved one, Mary Jo allowed all 15 of us in the room to hold him, to pray and to sing hymns. She sat down in the room, out of the way, and waited for everyone to agree on when morphine could be administered to help with his transition. She never left our side when we needed her, and boy, did we need her. I can assure you that while we have no complaints about any other staff we encountered in the hospital, Mary Jo was exactly who we needed that day. She has a true gift and will always remain a special part of our lives. We will never forget her because of her truly amazing and compassionate care.”
Please join us in congratulating Mary Jo for receiving The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses! To nominate the outstanding nurse in your life, complete the form on the Mosaic website at myMLC.com/daisy.

For patients to follow their plan of care once they leave a Mosaic facility, all the pieces must be in place such as food, housing and transportation. When one of these elements of self-care is missing, it places the patient’s outlook for better health in jeopardy. In this episode of Mosaic’s All the Pieces podcast, Chief Quality Officer and Hospitalist Karan Mohan, MD, speaks with Traci Spillman, community network program manager, about The AIM Network and, specifically, findhelp.org, a website dedicated to helping people find the resources they need.
