Tips to Prevent Holiday Decorating Back Pain

Holiday decorating is fun for the whole family, but if you aren’t careful, it can cause back and neck pain. While decorating, take caution and follow our tips to prevent any aches and pains that will damper your holiday spirit. Here’s what you need to know.

DECORATING: IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR
Taking on holiday decorating isn’t something one person should have to do alone. Taking on such a big project can easily lead to back pain and body aches. Not only will bringing in the whole family get the job done quicker, but it’s also a great way to spend time together and prevent back pain as one person isn’t responsible for hours worth of work. It is also a good idea to have someone around to help lift heavy boxes of decorations – especially when a ladder is involved so it doesn’t cause you to fall off balance.

AVOID OVER-REACHING
If you find you have to stretch yourself to the limit to hand a decoration, it is not worth the risk. Reaching so far can lead to strain in the arms, shoulders, and back and should be avoided. Instead of stretching yourself past the limit of comfort, place the ladder near the location so you can hang decorations easily and comfortably.

MAKE SURE DECOR IS GOOD TO GO
To set yourself for a successful decorating session, make sure your decorations are ready to go. Having to constantly twist and turn to grab the next string of lights or decorations can strain your back, leading to severe discomfort. When your decorations are ready to go, you don’t have to worry about shifting something out of alignment or carrying too heavy of a load that can hurt your back.
