Welcome Celina Terrones, our new NASA Instructional Coach.
“The sky is not the limit, it's just the beginning”
“To infinity and beyond.” 🌟
“Space: the final frontier.” 🚀
“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” 🌕
There is no shortage of famous space-related quotes. And there is no shortage of opportunities for students interested in space-related careers. Just ask North East ISD’s newest NASA Instructional Coach Celina Terrones.
“There are so many possibilities for these students,” said Terrones. “I want them to see their futures and the possibilities. There will be jobs in the space industry that we can’t even imagine yet.”
Terrones has spent nearly 20 years teaching sciences in San Antonio schools but has devoted the past few years to exploring space and working with NASA. She will now bring that knowledge and experience into our classrooms at the Space and Engineering Technologies Academy (SETA) at Krueger Middle School and Roosevelt High School.
SETA’s historic Space Act Agreement with NASA gives our students access to a NASA employee on-site. As a NASA Instructional Coach, Terrones will work with NASA and our teachers to provide NASA-created lessons and activities not available to the public. NEISD is only the second school district in the world with a NASA Space Act Agreement.
SETA students can work through four career pathways: aerospace engineering, aviation technology, computer science, or mechanical engineering and manufacturing. This is important for our students because each career pathway is linked to an industry-based certification that allows students to demonstrate mastery of career skills during high school, preparing them for the workforce or extended education after graduation.
“This program is really ideal for any student,” said Terrones. “Because many students may not realize how STEM works in so many fields. It’s just finding out what their interest or their passion is and finding out how that fits into an exciting career. Everybody has a place in space.”
Whether they reside within NEISD boundaries or not, students interested in SETA need to apply to be a part of this exciting new program. To learn more about SETA and how to apply, visit neisd.net/seta
A cool event coming up to celebrate women in aviation.

New SETA MS Director, Denise Martinez Ruiz, charged her SETA teachers with the task of writing an encouraging message to their students.
The task…..MY WISH FOR YOU IS……
Ruiz stated that she wants her students to know what her teachers want for them, the school year and their future.
Now posted in the SETA hallway, students can now view their teacher’s special messages for them.
Anabelia Cavazos shared with Ms Herrada at lunch today that she now has a drone! With such excitement, she shared how she flies her drone according to the FAA regulations she learned about in Aerospace class last year. She said, “I still have my trust license, and I fly away from the trees and other objects that could interfere”. Anabelia stated her father flew her drone, and he broke one of the the blades. He doesn’t have the flying experience I have, she implied. It was wonderful to see the student application of curriculum learned.
Happy FIRST day of school! SETA students were excited to see their friends and to meet their new teachers.
SETA Falcon Camp was a huge success. Excitement and smiles, all around. The incoming SETA students met their teachers, got their SETA gear and made connections. They are ready to take flight.
🚌 When your child steps on the bus, there's an extra layer of safety and security in place to get them to school and back home safely. 🏠
The North East ISD Transportation team utilizes the SMART Tag system for all elementary, middle and high school bus riders.
When students enter or exit a school bus, they scan their SMART ID Tag on a tablet. This provides valuable real-time information for our bus drivers, NEISD Transportation, school administrators and parents.
These secure tags do NOT contain personal student information and cannot be used to monitor a child's location when they're not on the bus.
The system includes several layers of efficiency and safety:
📸 Bus drivers can see student photos and names on their tablets when IDs are scanned, which helps ensure the child is on the correct bus
📍 Bus drivers can easily verify authorized guardians at pick-up locations.
📱 Parents can access an online portal with text notifications, including when the bus is nearby and when their students get on or off the bus.
⏱️ Transportation staff and school administrators can track real-time data on routes.
🧭. Dispatchers can view maps with live GPS bus locations and ridership data.
The system will soon be rolled out to children on Special Education routes and students who take the bus to their magnet school.
If your child will be riding the bus this year, please download the SMART Tag app
on your phone 📱
It will help keep you informed of your child's riding activities. https://www.qbit.codes/q/smart-tag-parent-app
