Lopez Middle School - North East ISD

Head Orchestra Director, Melanie Sorgi, retired from Lopez Middle School today after an amazing 38 years of teaching! Sorgi has been at Lopez since its opening 17 years ago, and has built an incredible orchestra program. To honor her, the Fine Arts team presented her with a plaque dedicating the school’s orchestra room to her. All our future Lopez orchestra students will walk into the Melanie Sorgi Orchestra Room every day, and know what an incredible legacy they are part of!

Summer is just around the corner and NEISD has a very special Summer Feast for you on Jun. 13, 2024 from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM at Ed White Middle School.

NEISD Summer Feast is an event open to all NEISD parents and their children from elementary, middle and high school. Children 18 and under will be provided a free lunch at the event through our free summer meal program.

In addition to the lunch program, the event will feature a resource fair with tables representing District departments, business partners and community agencies.

Each family in attendance will leave with a free produce bag courtesy of the San Antonio Food Bank.*

Christus Children's Mobile Clinic will be on hand to provide immunizations.

Featured Vendors and Partners include: San Antonio Zoo, San Antonio Healthy Neighborhoods/Metro Health, YMCA, Laurel Ridge Treatment Center, Sylvan Learning, Pets Alive, Any Baby Can, Family Service, Urban Strategies, Autism Community Network, City of San Antonio Metro Health, CRIT San Antonio, San Antonio Parks and Recreation, SA Kids BREATHE, and more!

NEISD's Solar Eclipse Plans for Monday, April 8
Friendly Reminder: Monday, April 8, is a regular school day at NEISD.

Don't worry -- students will have every opportunity to experience the upcoming Solar Eclipse! 😎 ☀️

Students will have the chance to watch as the moon blocks the sun and its shadow casts a night-like darkness over Earth for a few minutes that Monday afternoon. Our campus has specific viewing plans underway so our students can experience this phenomenon safely with protective glasses in an educational environment.

This will be an unforgettable learning experience and we look forward to experiencing this rare event

Dear Lopez Panthers,

I am very excited to announce that I will start the 2023-2024 school year as the new principal of Lopez Middle School. Together we will continue to accomplish the great successes that have become tradition at Lopez. This opportunity is a great honor for me and to say that I am excited is an understatement.

I have lived and worked in North East ISD for 23 years. My wife, Heidi, is also an administrator in the District, and this year, my son will be in 10th grade in NEISD. In those 23 years, I have taught classes, coached many successful teams, organized community events, and collaborated with faculty and parents to provide the best educational opportunities for students.

Most recently I was an Assistant Principal here at Lopez Middle School. In that time, I worked closely with the previous principal, Mr. Escamilla, as well as faculty, students, and parents. We banded together to overcome some unprecedented challenges. Now, together we can build on the foundation of excellence that defines Lopez Middle School. It’s going to be exciting to watch our students grow. Through collaboration we will continue to achieve success at a high level and send our students on to high school ready for whatever paths they choose.

We will also post a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document for families to review and get additional answers to questions.

Dozens of our bus drivers are out due to illness and as you know, many of our drivers are already doing double routes because of our ongoing bus driver shortage. Unfortunately, this will impact our afternoon schedule and students may be delayed at several of our campuses.

Buses 032, 042, 046, 058 and 512 will be delayed for Lopez MS.

Our transportation team will make every effort to get to campuses as quickly as possible, but delays up to an hour or more are possible.
