Tubing Against Cancer

The page is designed to help raise awareness about cancer and help the patients' affected by this disease. It Doesn't Discriminate. God Bless You All!!!

I started this benefit in late '09 after four of my family members were diagnosed
with the disease, three for the first time and one(my mother) for her second time. I wanted to help in some way to raise awareness to so many others, like me, that
cancer doesn't discriminate on who you are, what color you are, how old you are,
or how poor or wealthy you are. Since I was born, my family has been tak

Well, TAC23 is in the books and here shortly we’ll be gearing up for next year’s event. In the meantime, if you attended and have pictures of the artists, we’d really appreciate it if you added some to this post or started your own post on the page. I was trying to get as much as I could, but certainly wasn’t enough of everyone. Thank you all again for coming and supporting Discovery Camps and the children that will be attending this amazing escape from the normalcy of hospitals for these kids. Thank you to The Gruene Light & Rockin R River Rides for having us out and making this transition such an easy one, top notch service!! We WILL be back and bigger! If anyone that couldn’t attend and would like merch, we still have fishing shirts(S-XXL), koozies, and cups for sale! Thank you artists, volunteers, friends and family that made this all possible!!

Good morning Y'all!! We are just 25 hours away from Tubing Against Cancer '23 and we are so pumped to be spending the day on the banks of the Guadalupe River! I want to thank our sponsors for going above and beyond to get everything done in such a short amount of time: The Total Source, Thirsty Horse Saloon, WYLD GEAR!! Thank you to The Gruene Light for having us out this year as we embark on a new location, we can't wait! To all of our silent and live auction item donaters, THANK YOU!!! None of this would be possible without all of volunteers, sponsors, artists, sound crew, photographers/videographers, and YOU, so THANK YOU for your continued support as we've been growing over the years and to help our communities live long and prosperous lives. Please join us tomorrow from 12p-10p for the music portion of the event followed by tubing on Sunday at 11am at the same location. Want to know more about the Camp Discovery Family, look no further.

Hello all! You may have noticed that we have changed our name here on Facebook! Our page was created back when Camp Discovery was our only program. We want to create a centralized page which covers all of our camping programs. This will hopefully make it less confusing for newcomers to our Camp Family, and make it easy to find information on all of our various camps!

We at VisionWorks host many camping experiences for children who are battling cancer and their families. For those who may not know, here are some descriptions of our SIX camping programs that VisionWorks now hosts!

• Camp Discovery: Our main and largest program is Camp Discovery, a week long summer camp for children ages 7 to 16 who are either currently battling or have battled pediatric cancer. Camp Discovery children will experience perhaps the best week of their life by swimming, fishing, climbing, canoeing, laughing, dancing, singing, horseback riding, and simply being with other people who can relate to their situation.

• VisionWorks Family Camp Weekends: Weekend camps hosted for our normal Camp Discovery campers and their whole families. This includes most of our normal activities as well as a time of connectivity for the parents whose children are battling cancer.

• Camp Common Ground: An annual weekend camp hosted for families of children with special needs who are also facing a secondary diagnosis of cancer. This includes most of our normal activities as well as a time of connectivity for the parents whose children are battling cancer.

• Camp Firefly: An annual weekend camp hosted for the families of children who have passed away from cancer. This includes most of our normal activities as well as a time of connectivity for the parents who have lost their child to cancer.

• AYA in SA: Quarterly daytime or weekend events hosted for Adolescents/Young Adults (AYA) in the San Antonio area who have been diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 17 and 29. This gives them the opportunities to bond and have fun with other young adults facing their same battle.

• Camp Brave Hearts: Monthly in-hospital camps held at Methodist Children’s Hospital. These monthly camps provide four days of fun and respite for children in the pediatric oncology clinic as well as those children in in-patient care battling life-threatening illnesses. Our goal with Camp Brave Hearts is to bring the joy of camp to those who are unable to attend our other camp sessions due to their medical situations.
