National Doughnut Day is Friday. Did you know National Doughnut Day was started by The Salvation Army?
To celebrate the occasion, a number of local doughnut shops will offer a free doughnuts and other incentives this Friday to customers throughout the day.
The Salvation Army started National Doughnut Day in Chicago in 1938 to help raise needed funds during the Great Depression and commemorate the work of the “doughnut lassies” who fed donuts to American soldiers on the front lines during World War I. The doughnuts became synonymous with The Salvation Army, as well as the American soldiers who were returning home with the nickname, “doughboys.” Today, The Salvation Army continues to provide meals and numerous other services to clients who visit Salvation Army programs daily. The organization also provides meals to victims and first responders during times of disaster. For more information on our programs, go to SalvationArmySATX.org.
Your choice to give to The Salvation Army right now means families won’t have to choose between necessities like food, rent, or medicine.
Your kindness will be a blessing for hardworking moms … and dads too! You’ll ease their burdens, providing food, rent and utility assistance, and whatever else is needed to help them through a crisis.
Every dollar you give today is being matched. Your generosity will go twice as far in supporting families during uncertain times. Donate at https://bit.ly/double_my_impact. Thank you for being so supportive.

Dear friends,
It is with great joy that I wish you and your families a happy Easter or Resurrection Sunday, as we say in our house.
I want to share a few brief thoughts on the resurrection of Christ with you. In John's gospel, we read of an "almost" empty tomb. Reading such a phrase that points to the resurrection may come as a surprise to you. But I can assure you that the items left in the tomb were significant for Jesus's followers. You can read the account in John 20:1-9.
After hearing Mary Magdalene's report, that "they have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him" (John 20:2b NIV), John and Peter rush to the tomb to discover it was not entirely empty.
They found the strips of linen and the burial cloth that covered the bloodied body of Christ left behind. However, the description does not indicate the clothes were disheveled or thrown off. Instead, the description in Greek suggests that the linen strips and burial cloth were set in place as if the body of Christ suddenly disappeared, leaving them in place.
In his commentary on the Gospel of John, William Barclay suggests the body of Jesus "had evaporated," leaving the burial cloths. You may have gathered from Mary's words that the initial thoughts were that someone stole the body of Jesus, likely to add insult to injury.
However, the evidence remaining in the tomb told a different story. Jesus had been resurrected! In verse 8, we are told that John (the other disciple) saw and believed!
This account of Jesus' resurrection reminds me that God gives us what we need to believe. Friends, it is all grace! I pray that the hope of the resurrection of Christ has strengthened your faith. As followers of Jesus, we, too, will experience the power of resurrection.
May God bless you and your family.

The Salvation Army San Antonio Women's Auxiliary joined forces with Carol Ann Villarreal and Amerigroup to make 75 "Baskets of Love." The baskets, made for women in our Emergency Family Shelter, are filled with basic necessities, such as full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, combs, hair brushes, bar packets of soap and feminine products.
The baskets are just one of the SAWA’s efforts to touch the lives of the people that The Salvation Army serves.
