We are thrilled to announce that Kelsey O. Daniels (she/they) will be joining us as our Artist in Residence. Hailing from South East San Diego, Kelsey is an extraordinary artist, organizer, and baddie scholar whose interdisciplinary practice spans the realms of dreamwork, poetry, mixed media art, singing, sociology, and more 🎤
During her residency at Thurgood Marshall College, Kelsey will be curating transformative opportunities for students and faculty. Through mixers and writing workshops, she will guide participants in engaging with dreamwork as an ancestral, wellness, and liberation practice. Staying on theme, we will be giving away a Nintendo Switch to a lucky student that attends a minimum of 5 Marshall Welcome Week events (this will be checked, make sure to check-in at any events you attend) and then take the post-survey that will be sent to all event participants that checked into any Marshall Welcome Week events! Happy ! We’re thrilled to kick off our very first post - get a sneak peek of what has been up to this summer ☀️⬇️
✨ Autumn Monteforte, Staff: “My family and I traveled to Vancouver, Canada for a week-long trip exploring the area. My son enjoyed watching all the animals at the aquarium and we enjoyed nice walks along the water and eating lots of fun food.”
✨ Leslie Carver, Faculty: “I’ve mostly been working all summer, and I’m going to get my knee replaced (ugh), but we just got back from a week-long vacation to Idyllwild. It was very nice (really hot). We took a pottery class & learned sgraffito).”
✨ Mya Ordaz Hernandez, Incoming First-Year: “This summer, I had the opportunity to go out with family and friends before the start of freshman year. I traveled to Cancun, Q.Roo Mexico, and got to see the beautiful warm waters of Mexico. I tried their delicious cuisine and got to explore the area. I also had the privilege of going to the Del Mar Fair, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, and other locations in San Diego. The most memorable part of all was going to the beautiful San Diego beaches and watching the sunset. This was an unforgettable summer, and I am looking forward to my freshman year at UCSD.”
✨ Lana Badan Cerqueira, Incoming Second-Year: “This summer I decided to explore the beaches of San Diego and stumbled upon Windansea Beach where my roommate and I found a spot to watch the sunset and the waves go by.”
We're excited to hear your summer stories! Share yours at bit.ly/tmc-featurefriday.
