It’s Monday….LETS TALK!
YEP, ITS TRUE! WE GOT THE KEYS NEXT DOOR!
But… we’re not doing more coffee — we’re doing PIZZZAAAAA. We’re calling this project Somewhere Pizza. Basically, in a scene where every new restaurant wants to be Disneyland & serve mid food, we just are really missing those old, familiar, delicious, safe, neighborhood spots used to tie neighborhoods together. We really feel like Scrim is the morning version of that, but as owners who literally live two blocks away, we wanna walk somewhere for dinner sometimes too.
BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP! We’re teaming up with .co to raise capital for somewherepizza_sd - basically remodeling this space is going to be expensive! Your contributions will help us finance equipment, the buildout, create jobs and ultimately allow us to continue to bring genuine hospitality & thoughtful neighborhood dining to our block.
We’re bringing on .bread to consult for us, so all things bread related is going to SMAAACK. Think slices & sandwiches for lunch, full pies & small plates for dinner, tasty things for the bambino’s, the best dessert around & obviously a bangin’ list of natural wine, craft beer & house made sodas. Think an aesthetic that feels like maybe it’s brand new, or maybe it’s been there a real long time. Think the same love & service that we sling at Scrim and Maj, and a great playlist to boot.
The best part of helping us open? Your contributions come BACK to YOU at 120%. Basically, pitch in a hundo, get $120 back to come have dinner. Essentially, you’re just buying dinner for later. Pretty doooope.

ONE YEAR OF WINE CLUUUUB
Yo so we started wine club last year really because we wanted to taste a bunch of incredible wine. And have you join once a month after hours to eat some incredible food. We alsooo definitely have used the last year of dinners to r&d and test what we’re capable of & what people are into, in preparation for a big announcement coming sooon.
So THIS FRIDAY, we’re running back some of our favorite dishes over the last year, some may have some tweaks but these are just some of the bites that stood out big time.
We’re pairing with some delicious German wines that frankly are bangerssss alongside food.

ROAST DAAAAY
Every Friday we roast up the good stuff. We don’t talk about it on the ol IG enough, but we’re pretty dang proud of the coffee we roast up here under our label .

SUMMER IN HANOI
This months wine club menu is inspired by a month-ish long trip that Chef Jeannette took to Southeast Asia.
This heat has us reaching for dishes that are cold, but maybe spicy, refreshing & bursting with flavor. Of course, also cheap beer & chuggable wine.
So figured what the hell- let’s throw it on wine clubs menu. So cruise out this Friday night for a real exciting wine club menu.

WE’RE BAD AT BUSINESS
We’ve been experimenting this year with how to bring value to our people. And the reality is, our version of a coffee shop is all about the volume baybeeeee, and we’d rather cut our margin a bit and sell way more of somethin, than keep it on the shelf longer than it should be.

SUMMER SEASONALS HAVE DROPPED (last week, that is)
This year, we’re working backwards with our menus. Picking a favorite song of the season, and building drinks around ‘em.
This summer, we chose “Sex & Candy” by Marcy Playground, famously featured as the final (and@best??) track on Now That’s What I Call Music, vol.1!
First up - “Double Cherry Pie” - a black cherry iced tea, with spiced almond orgeat & toasted pecan bitters. Served iced, and in a fancy glass if you get it to stay.
Next, we’ve got “Platform Double Suede”. We felt fuzzy with this, so went espresso tonic, with a peach sage syrup, a little lime to keep it bright.
And lastly- “Mama, this surely is a dream”. A simple iced latte, but with an orange vanilla syrup.
We suggest grabbing your roller skates & Walkman, one of the above, and hitting the boardwalk.

An experiment that frankly, we can’t keep stocked.
About a month and a half ago, we put these stamped brown paper bags of coffee on the shelf for a whopping $10 a pop. These are misfit lots of coffee that we hunted for in search of savings that we could pass on, but all could benefit from. Theres a whole shpeal on the second slide that explains it a bit better.
ANYWAYS, all that to say- we’re tryin’ harder to keep these shelves stocked. We roast every Friday, so cruise thru & snag a bag!

It’s already that time of month! This Friday, we’re heading to the Mediterranean. And we’ve got Chef Logan of takin’ us there.
We’ve been thinkin’ about the vibrant open air markets of those port cities a ton, so expect a colorful array of flavors, that’ll have you wanting to snag one of everything.
You don’t have to be a member of wine club to come hang on Friday night. We stay open later, dim the lights, and turn the music up. Dinner starts at 5:30, and stays open til 9ish.

yahoooo! so just remindin’ ya we have a stocked fridge & shelf of adult only juice! somethin for every occasion!

We’re a cafe that’s open 11 hours/day, with cooks & baristas that are either in school, hustling a second job, or commute 30+ minutes each way.
Tbh it’s pretty damn tough to do any sort of family meal, or even have a meeting where everyone is present. The closest we’ve been able to get is a quarterly meeting. They’re generally about tightening the screws, new coffees, being better for each other & our guests..etc. But this time it was about all that + a new menu.
ALL THAT TO SAY - we just rolled out a whole new lunch menu.
-Grilled chix (take it to the park)
-tamago (egg salad + msg, get over it)
-cubano (slow cooked for minimum of so many hours)
-a bunch of other way better sandwiches
It’s easy to hire someone to take pictures of pretty sandwiches, but think we’d rather show the people tasting & making them.

spring coffees have definitely arrived. this G1 natural, heirloom coffee from Guji, Eth is pretty unreal. Big lime zest, even a lil mint IMO, some blueberry, but just all around tropical fruit fersheeeer. a one way ticket to yumtown.

BIG GIANT NEWS ALERT!
We opened a 21+ beer & wine bar, with FOOD!
Over the last few months, we’ve been quietly pouring a ton love into a 35 year old bar about a mile east of the cafe.
We’re calling it MAJORETTE - an homage to our neighborhood & the university we share it with.
Expect fresh beer, natural wine, quality food & good friends. Plenty of TV’s, spacious patio, and as its been for forever — free billiards.
This ‘hood is everything to us, and to be able to create another place to rub elbows with neighbors, coworkers & soon to be friends, is incredibly exciting.
We’re currently in a soft open phase, slinging smash burgers & a varied beverage list.
Excited to see ya there.
