Structural Energetic Therapy is a phenomenal system of bodywork to help people out of pain which allows them freedom of movement in their bodies. One of my current clients is a Marine electrician, and in just 3 sessions, she's has about a 2" torso lift out of her pelvis and expansion and length throughout her body especially her back. Feeling pain after any myofascial session,
like Structural Energetic Therapy, Structural Integration/Rolfing, Anatomy Trains, Physical Therapy, etc.
Myofascial therapy aims to alleviate pain and discomfort by addressing the bodyโs structure and alignment. While some people may experience temporary discomfort or pain during or after these appointments, this is usually a normal part of the process.
Why Do People Feel Pain After Myofascial sessions?
โข Release of Tension: This therapy involves applying gentle, sustained pressure to specific areas of the body to release tension and restrictions in the muscles, fascia, and connective tissue. This release can cause temporary discomfort or pain as the body adjusts to the new alignment.
โข Releasing Adhesions: This therapy and massage therapy in general helps to break down adhesions and scar tissue that can cause pain and stiffness. This process can be uncomfortable, but itโs a normal part of the healing process.
โข Increased Blood Flow: This therapy and massage therapy in general stimulates blood flow to areas that were previously restricted, which can cause temporary discomfort or pain as the body adjusts to the increased circulation.
What to Expect After Myofascial Sessions?
โข Relaxation: Many people report feeling relaxed and calm after a these types of sessions, which can be a sign that the body is releasing tension and adjusting to the new alignment.
โข Temporary Discomfort: Some people may experience temporary discomfort or pain in the areas worked on during the session, which can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days.
โข Improved Range of Motion: As the body adjusts to the new alignment, people may experience improved range of motion and reduced stiffness.
โข Increased Awareness: Myofascial sessions and massage therapy can increase body awareness, allowing people to better understand their posture, movement patterns, and areas of tension.
Tips for Managing Pain After Myofascial Sessions.
โข Listen to Your Body: If you experience severe pain or discomfort, stop the session and consult with your practitioner.
โข Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help your body flush out toxins and reduce inflammation.
โข Stretch and Move: Gentle stretching and movement can help your body adjust to the new alignment and reduce discomfort.
โข Communicate with Your Practitioner: Inform your practitioner about any discomfort or pain you experience during or after the session, and they can adjust their technique accordingly.
Remember, myofascial sessions is a process (especially for systems of protocols of Structural Energetic Therapy, Structural Integration/Rolfing, Anatomy Trains, etc.) that requires patience, trust, and communication. If you experience persistent or severe pain, consult with your healthcare provider or a qualified massage therapy/myofascial practitioner for guidance.
