We had our overnight trip last week and did many water-related activities from skipping rocks on the Russian River to looking for wildlife with a naturalist on a bluff at Fort Ross. It was an incredible part of our Water Journey—we’re still getting whiffs of campfire smoke now that we’re back at home! 🏕️ 🔥 🌊
A real highlight of our Water Journey was our visit with Dave Muller at his studio where learned some watercolor techniques and spent a beautiful day in the Outer Sunset. Thanks for hosting us ✨ 🌊🎨
Our Water Journey is well underway and one highlight was touring the Heron’s Head Eco Center where we learned about their sustainable water systems which inspired us to build our own rain barrel systems back at school! We followed our tour with some volunteer work doing habitat restoration and are grateful to the Heron’s Head team who hosted us and answered all our questions. 🌊💧
We’re thrilled to be partnering with Palomacy to once again foster a pair of pigeons for the semester. Meet Wilbur and Orville, who became honorary Nomadians last week and have settled in quite nicely!
Thanks to for the wonderful visit to their pigeon aviary at Ploughshares Nursery. We’re so grateful for Palomacy’s work on behalf of our pigeon friends!
We had such a great time visiting to work on this Lunar New Year dragon project with older adults in our neighborhood—check out their ongoing workshops and upcoming Lunar New Year community party!
What would a Time Journey be without clocks? This clock stood out because the gear mechanisms were made out of wood! Thanks to for letting us visit his shop and see so many amazing time keeping devices ⏰ 🕰️
What better way to start off a new year and new semester than with a mini-journey on the theme of Time. This cohort started with an excursion to this giant sundial thinking about all the ways we measure and mark the passing of time!
It wouldn’t be a Colony Journey without spending some time with bees. We had a great visit with experts from who brought some bees for us to observe, gear to learn about, and honey to taste! 🐝🍯🐝
It’s been a busy month for our Colony Journey and time has been flying. We’ve been examining colonies from every angle we can think of, and growing these mushrooms has been one of our favorite activities! 🍄
We always love the project for our first journey, to create an identity portrait to share with the Nomad community. We’re grateful to for these amazing photos which are now hanging in student-made frames on our wall so we can appreciate them all year! 🖼️
We’ve been busy going through our beginning of the year took training so we can build and decorate the frames for our Identity Portraits. Our annual gallery opening is today and we can’t wait!
We had an amazing tour at last week and were grateful to learn some tips and tricks as we prepare for our own live radio broadcast later this week with 📻🔊
It wouldn’t be a Transmission Journey if we didn’t study radio! We made it up to Bernal for a radio lab before the smoke blew in this week. We had a great time hiking around, meeting some dogs, exploring radio waves, and listening to some sweet tunes on air 📻🎶
This week has been all about transmitting messages, specifically sending mail! ✉️ Each Nomadian created a zine about something they love and chose a few friends/family members to send it to. We filled envelopes with the zines and other treasures (stickers, gems, temporary tattoos) and took a trip to the post office!
New school year! We kicked off our Transmission Journey reviewing our public transit protocols and then heading out for a Grand Adventure 🚎
Join us for our last Open House of the year on Monday, January 9th! We can't wait to share about our unique approach to the magical middle school years and give you a tour of our space.
