Featuring killer artwork from tidbit, our new aloha shirts are cut in the vintage straight-hem, camp collar style for a classic look and fit. Made of a soft cotton/tencel blend, these great shirts are designed to enhance rum drinking performance for everyone!

The print came out great with rich, saturated color. Our apologies about the shirt model; he was all we could get on short notice.

It is with profound sadness that we must share the news that our beloved Steven Liles has passed away. Steve was the heart and soul of Smuggler’s Cove for thirteen years before he left to explore new adventures last year. In a career lasting over thirty years, he showed every guest true hospitality, warmth, and what it means to see bartending as an aspirational and meaningful way of life. Never one for the spotlight, Steve was of course uncomfortable being named Imbibe Magazine’s Bartender of the Year in 2017, saying “I’m just a worker, and happily so.” Steve’s energies and passions were always focused outwards- towards his guests, his dear friends, his wide-ranging and excellent taste in music, vintage design and fashion, and his beloved FC Barcelona. Steve was always a valued asset beyond the walls of the Cove, helping with events across the US and Caribbean where we were proud to bring the Liles experience to a bigger audience. Steve will forever be a part of the DNA of Smuggler’s Cove, and he made us a better bar along the way. He touched a lot of lives, and for those that knew and loved him, he will be cherished forever. San Francisco has really lost something special today. We’re in contact with friends and family now, and while it’s too soon to add anything else at this point, we hope that we’ll be able to help with a celebration of life later this year. Smuggler’s Cove will be dark tonight while we take some time off to remember our friend and colleague.

We're celebrating with a wonderful new drink special: The Hōkūle‘a! We're once again working with a great locally-made spirit: Olehna - a lovely and unique turmeric and ginger spirit made on Treasure Island by Chef Ravi Kapur of Yacht Club fame. Olehna celebrates canoe plants like turmeric and ginger that travelled with Polynesian voyagers to Hawai'i. Dr. Barca has paired it with fresh lemon, honey, pear and our own private barrel of cask-strength Kohana rum - distilled in Hawai'i from fresh sugar cane- another vital canoe plant! We've named it The Hōkūle‘a in tribute to the famed voyaging canoe that has been sailing the pacific since the 1970s and was just in San Francisco in September. Conceived & designed by **g and brought to life by the skilled artists at Max’s mug studio in Grand Rapids, MI, Tapairu stands guard atop the treasures of the Cove (it’s probably rum). The mug stands 8.5” high with a volume of 20oz and features a beautiful green gloss crackle glaze on top and a matte finish base. S**g’s distinctive style has been brought to life with this detailed and intricate mug. There’s even a Super Limited Edition with more detail and a bronze metallic glaze! Produced in a very limited edition of just 100 (and only 10 Super Limited Editions), there will be no further editions produced. Each one comes with a numbered COA designed and produced by S**g. Smuggler’s Cove in San Francisco and Hale Pele in Portland announce Maui Mondays to raise funds for the victims of the wildfires in Maui. Every Monday in September, both venues will donate half of net sales to a variety of relief and aid agencies. Our strategy is twofold: Firstly, by raising funds every Monday for a month, you have multiple opportunities to visit and help. No special menu, just come and drink as you like and raise a glass to the good people of Maui. Every drop will count. Secondly, we’re starting our fundraising later to extend the giving period. Maui may leave the news cycle soon, but their needs will be far from over, and we hope that this will help extend the current wave of donations. Maui Strong, Maui United Way, UH Foundation, Hawaii Red Cross, Lāhui Foundation, The Hawaiian Council Kākoʻo Maui Fund, World Central Kitchen, Maui Food Bank, and Maui Humane Society are all among the organizations that are under consideration, and we’ll check in with each towards the end of September to see who is active on the ground and how best to distribute funds to be the most effective.
