“I begin each project, much like my colleagues, with a sensory design approach that is guided by several purposes with a lot of focus on comfort and wellbeing. If you think about all the spaces you inhabit, you are a product of your environment. As an interior designer, I am responsible for composing that setting—spaces thoughtfully layered with materiality, texture, lighting, and a connection to nature—all crafted with intent and purpose to evoke memory and meaning. I like to believe that the spaces I design resonate with my clients, enrich their lives, but more importantly, create emotional connections. To me, that’s timeless.” Janet Mercier on the subject of Timeless Architecture for

It’s easy to find joy in natural light! Designing with natural light not only enhances the aesthetics of a space but also has a profound impact on our wellbeing. Exposure to sunlight improves our sleep patterns, our energy levels, our concentration, our mood, and even our immune systems. Embrace natural light in design and enjoy the benefits it brings.

From the playful shape of bubbles to the nostalgic charm of a Ferris wheel, there's something universally joyful about rounded forms. Incorporating rounded forms into design can create a sense of whimsy and playfulness. Spirals, organic shapes, curves, and arcs, rounded forms evoke a feeling of welcoming and warmth.

We find amusement in using anthropomorphism to create designs that feel alive and filled with personality. Recognition of our own characteristics in design - faces, shapes, and proportions - triggers a joyful emotional response and makes us feel connected to the world around us.
So, the next time you spot a face in a lamp or a personality in a chair, take a moment to appreciate the joy of anthropomorphism.

Our brains are wired to look for patterns, orders, rhythms, and repetitions. We believe that incorporating these elements into design can create an immersive field that evokes joy and stimulates the mind. Patterns can add layers of interest and create a playful atmosphere in any space.
Whether it's a bold geometric print, a subtle organic pattern, or an optical illusion that provokes thought and adds layers of interest we love finding joy in the intricacies of design. Happy International Day of Happiness!
We believe in creating spaces that evoke genuine emotion. Over the next few days, we'll explore a variety design elements that bring us joy.
Every design, no matter the scale, starts with a sketch. Sketches allow us to explore ideas and layouts, and they're an integral part of the design process. In the second image, you can see the finished rendering of the area that was inspired by the sketches. It's awe inspiring to see the transformation from those first lines to the final product. We're always proud of the work we do and the spaces we create.
Happy Pi Day!
Today, we celebrate the beauty of math and the deliciousness of pie. As designers, we know firsthand the importance of math in our work. From measuring spaces to calculating materials, math is an essential tool that allows us to create beautiful, functional spaces. We were lucky enough to receive this amazing cherry pie from Fillmore Bake Shop gifted to us by Jolene Enns from JANUS et Cie. It's the perfect way to celebrate the day!
How are you celebrating Pi Day? Let us know in the comments below!
