Black Census! Stand up and be counted.
https://blackcensus.org/
Black Census In 2018, we conducted the largest survey of Black people in the United States since Reconstruction. Over 30,000 Black people from across the country participated in the inaugural Black Census Project, providing their views, political beliefs, concerns, and aspirations. 4 years later, we’re excited...
Lately it seems everyone I know has tested positive for Covid. Last week we had to postpone my sister-in-law’s wedding because most of the wedding party got Covid. It even led to pneumonia for the groom who is under 30! Here are some tips to keep up with your good hygiene.
David Johnson is being honored with a dedication of the Film Processing Lab at the Harvey Milk Photography Center. Join us to celebrate Friday Aug 12 from 4-6 at 50 Scott St.
So many community members advocated for this honor for David, most especially . Come celebrate the outcome of all that hard work.
As someone with a toddler I can tell you how costly diapers are for a family. Add the baby formula crisis and other challenges and it can really add up. Learning about resources can really help a family out. Know someone who needs help with diapers? Pass the word!
The San Francisco Diaper Bank is the nation's first city-funded program that provides diapers to low-income families on public benefits. Ninety five percent of the families served by the San Francisco Diaper Bank identify as Black, Indigenous and people of color, and 48% speak a language other than English at home.
Free diapers are available to Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and CalWORKs households.

NCBW is enraged about the Supreme Court’s decision today to overturn Roe vs Wade. Roe v. Wade has been overturned. We must fight back.
This unconscionable decision
will impact the very essence of choice in this country.
…This is an incredibly sad day, especially for Black women, who will be disproportionately impacted by the court’s appalling assault on a woman’s right to choose.
“Let us be clear, the wealthy and powerful will always have access to abortion. Poor, Black, Brown, and other women of color will die without access to legal and safe abortion. We know this to be true because we have seen it happen before”, stated National President Elizabeth A. Jones.
Women deserve the right to make decisions about their own bodies without the control of our government. Abortion is healthcare, and healthcare is a human right.
I appreciated receiving this piece shared by my mentor and friend on color lines in our country and how their stratifications have been far from creating equalization.
We should celebrate our capacity to find love and common ground across difference, and feel shame when we step on the necks of those at the bottom while taking a shine to those at the top. And importantly, we shouldn’t be so sanguine in thinking that greater diversity in any place, or the “browning of America,” as some call it, means that we will treat people fairly. We’ve been trained in the exact opposite way. The work of witnessing might make us better, or at least more honest.
The Atlantic on Twitter ““We shouldn’t be so sanguine in thinking that greater diversity in any place, or the ‘browning of America,’ as some call it, means that we will treat people fairly,” writes. “We’ve been trained in the exact opposite way.” https://t.co/VJsul1mFsz”
Happy Juneteenth! Acknowledging the truth and celebrating freedom.
