Working together to build a safer San Francisco for all ESTABLISHED 2010.
A voluntary forum comprised of unpaid community leaders, organizers and volunteers who provide a vital liaison between the city-wide LGBT community and the Chief of the San Francisco Police Department.
Working with Castro Community On Patrol we distributed 30 of these SFPD SAFE PLACE posters to businesses on the 500 block of Castro Street and the 4100 block of 19th Street.
The SAFE PLACE program, promoted by the SFPD Public Safety PRIDE Alliance, SFPD LGBTQ+ Advisory Forum, Castro Community on Castro Community On Patrol, and Community Patrol USA encourages businesses to visibly display the poster in their window for member of the public to see. When anyone feels threatened or unsafe, they can go to any business displaying the SAFE PLACE poster and that businesses agrees to call 9-1-1 and shelter the individual until assistance arrives.
We will work to distribute the posters on 18th Street, the 400 block of Castro Street, and the 2200 and 2300 blocks of Market Street over the next few weeks to include as many businesses as possible in the program. We will then extend the program to other areas of the city.
If you own a business and would like to participate in the SAFE PLACE program, please reach out to us at INFO @ Castropatrol. org and we will bring one to your location.

We have scheduled two training classes in June as part of our normal PRIDE month safety preparations for the LGBTQ+ community. These classes are low/no impact, open to anyone of 18 years or older, they provide a ton of information and useful ideas, and they are always well received by those in attendance.
ACTIVE SHOOTER basic training class offers some simple steps to help you respond if you find yourself in the worst of situations. It is a two-hour lecture based training class. If you have not received any Active Shooter training at school or work, this will help you better understand what to do, and when to do it. Only $20 per attendee.
SELF-DEFENSE beginners class is a three and a half hour class designed to help you recognize, avoid, and de-escalate problems if possible, and as a very last resort defend yourself if you MUST. The concepts are simple, easy to apply, and useful to anyone of any age in general. Only $30 per attendee.
Sign up now to reserve your space in either, or BOTH, of these important training classes. You will learn some very valuable information and skills, and you will HELP US with your attendance fee's to continue to provide this training to the community.
Both classes are low-stress, fun, and relaxed - I promise! Why not sign up today, help yourself learn a few new skills, and help Castro Community On Patrol to continue to provide these classes.
Proud and humbled to accept the 2023 FBI Directors Community Leadership award at the FBI Headquarters in Washington D.C. from FBI Director Christopher Wray for our work on the San Francisco LGBTQ+ Community Safety Program which brings training, resources, and support to the LGBTQ+ community in critical safety areas such as Active Shooter Prevention, Hate Crimes Reporting, Self-Defense Concepts, and more.
I was only one of some sixty other recipients from around the United States who are all performing incredible and invaluable work on behalf of their varied and diverse communities. At Community Patrol Service and Castro Community On Patrol we have enjoyed and greatly value and appreciate the support, assistance, and involvement of the FBI San Francisco field office and the many agents and support staff who work throughout the area.

Castro Patrol maintains 2 public AEDs in late-night businesses: Orphan Andy's Restaurant off Jane Warner Plaza and Oz Pizza 508 Castro Street. If you are helping someone suffering from sudden cardiac arrest (explained in article) just ask for the AED and rush it to the location of the victim. It is literally a life-and-death moment.
Life-saving AEDs are rarely used in cases of cardiac arrest, a new study finds. Why that's a problem — and what you can do. Portable defibrillators can improve the odds of surviving cardiac arrest dramatically, but they're seldom used outside of a hospital.

Dear Friend of Castro Patrol,
We are happy to share that Supervisor Mandelman’s office has let us know that the Board of Supervisors (BOS) commendation will take place on at San Francisco City Hall on February 27. We would enjoy having you attend the event if you are free that afternoon.
This is a real honor as it will be the first time in our 17-year history to have the entire BOS become aware of our history of helping keep the Castro safe through our volunteer patrols, in addition to extraordinary events like managing the vigil by 10,000 people on Castro Street for the victims of the Pulse shootings in Orlando just hours after the shooting stopped in 2016 or the threat from the Patriot Prayer white supremacy group in 2017.
We know it is a business/school day, but hope to have several of our volunteers in orange uniforms along with supporters and partners in our work.
Where: BOS meeting room 250 SF City Hall
When: Meeting starts at 2:00 pm and halts for a few minutes around 2:30 for the event
We suggest arriving a bit early to get through security and to find a seat as some of the BOS meetings have a large number of people waiting to provide public comment on whatever is on the agenda that day.
Castro Community On Patrol and Community Patrol Service will be hosting a beginners community self-defense class in the heart of the Castro on Saturday February 17, 2024 from 1PM to 4PM, open to anyone 18 years or older.
The class is a great introduction to basic self-defense concepts for you and your loved ones. Low impact, fun, information packed, and always very popular, this is a great opportunity to learn and apply some very useful concepts and skills to help keep you a little safer.
FROM CCOP :
For our "Active Shooter" community educational outreach efforts in 2022/2023 Chief Ken Craig of Community Patrol USA and Chief Greg Carey of Castro Community On Patrol have been recognized by the FBI to receive the FBI Directors Community Liaison award at a ceremony that will take place at the FBI Headquarters in Washington D.C. on April 19th, 2024.
CPS and CCOP led multiple "Active Shooter" training classes for bars, businesses, and nonprofits in the aftermath of the Club Q murders in late 2022, and we continued leading these classes into 2023. In these efforts we worked closely with the FBI and the US Department of Homeland Security to update and refine our class content. We were honored to have FBI agents, DHS agents, SFDA Investigators, and SFFD Officers attend each of our classes to provide attendees with additional insights and understanding of the incidents.
Congratulations to Chief Craig and Chief Carey on your continued dedication and commitment to making the Castro and San Francisco a little safer and more secure for everyone and on this incredible recognition by the FBI.
A local San Francisco ceremony will take place in order to recognize both Chief's in receiving this award before they travel to Washington D.C. for the formal award ceremony. We will advise everyone of the details of the San Francisco ceremony once they are finalized.
