In honor of Father's Day this year, the Storyworth Podcast featured the entire Streeter family: David and Ginny, plus their kids Libby, Reuben, Kaylee, and Connor. The Streeter kids took turns reading their favorite passages from their dad's Storyworth book and shared stories about what it was like growing up with David for a dad.

David's family highlighted stories that touched on his favorite memories, words to live by, top hobbies, and prized possessions. Here's a sneak peek:

"...Very early the next morning, right about daybreak, we heard the commotion coming from the logging road above the house. We heard large trucks, a lot of men talking loudly, and a lot of trees crashing and chainsaws going. We also smelled smoke.

Then it happened. Granddad opened the door, and the look on his face required no words. We knew exactly what had happened. And so did he..."

In the latest episode of the Storyworth Podcast, Donna shares a story about her inspiring grandmother Sadie and the sacrifices she made to support her son through law school. Donna also reflects on how Sadie's determination inspired her family and others to this day.

"At the young age of 18, Jay lost his father and aspired to attend college. To realize this dream, he enrolled at Brooklyn College, which was part of the tuition-free New York City public education system. Excelling in his studies, he wished to continue to law school and to become an attorney, recognizing the significance of attending a reputable institution.

Columbia University, an Ivy League School, accepted him. However, the financial burden was significant, as Jay was already working part-time as a soda jerk in a pharmacy and a nighttime clerk at a liquor store. At this point, Sadie stepped in.

Despite being in her 60s, she decided to reenter the workforce as a bookkeeper. Determined to support her son, she marched into the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She said to them, 'when the Navy needed sailors to fight the nation's wars, I gave you three sons. Now you give me a job.'..."

In the latest episode of The Storyworth Podcast, Steven reads a touching letter written by his Grandpa Jake more than 40 years ago, just after the birth of Steven's son Michael. Steven then shares stories about his resilient and imaginative grandpa, showcasing the enduring love Jake had for his family.

"The wit and wisdom of venerable Grandpa Jake is part of me right down to my very marrow. He was deeply and emotionally invested in family. We corresponded via letter from time to time. Each letter was heart to heart and poignant. I saved every one of them.

Here is one from my memorabilia box that I particularly cherish about parenthood and our then seven-month-old son, Michael. I used his wording verbatim to preserve the old world Eastern European charm..."

The latest episode of The Storyworth Podcast dives into the thrilling and sometimes terrifying experience of growing up in Baton Rouge during hurricane season. Laura takes us back to the 1960s, when hurricanes provided the perfect excuse to skip school for a week and play cards by candlelight.

"When I was a little girl, there were few things more exciting than word that a hurricane was headed our way. Baton Rouge was only 49 miles from the Gulf Coast, and it seemed like there were storms every year, especially during the 1960s. Actually, there were only about three hurricanes I experienced that were direct hits to Baton Rouge. Much of what I remember was preparing for expected hurricanes that veered elsewhere and listening to adults share stories of ones that struck before I was born.

So you might wonder, what on earth would make someone delighted to hear a huge storm was bearing down on them? I guess the answer depends on whom you ask. So here's what I remember about hurricanes from my childhood..."

With Valentine's Day around the corner, we share a story of love at first sight. From the moment Walt laid eyes on Pam, he knew she was the one for him. It only took another four months to work up the courage to say hello.

"It's the first day of our graduate study program at San Diego State University. Students are milling about, making introductions and sizing each other up. We're all excited, curious, a bit scared.

Soon, I spy with my little eye one particularly intriguing and gregarious woman. She's socializing with her new friends, engaging and chatty and full of spark.

I gaze at her long enough to be rude, but thankfully, she's oblivious to my gaping mouth and stares. She's stunning, just strikingly beautiful. Every thread and hair follicle are luminously in place. She has the zing factor.

One part of me says, she's out of my league. Another part says, so what? You can do this...."

In the latest episode of The Storyworth Podcast, Joan shares the hilarious (though slightly traumatic) events surrounding her senior prom -- and the plan her family hatched to save the day.

"The events of senior prom make me laugh now, but were pretty traumatic then.

My sister had a beautiful dress that she wore to a wedding. I loved that dress, so I asked her if I could borrow it for my prom.

On the day of the prom, I went to have my hair done at a salon I had never been to, and it was pretty far away. The stylist was running behind and I was afraid I would be late getting home. On the way back, I got lost and I was just driving around forever looking for a street I knew. When I finally found my way home, I walked into my grandmother's apartment through the back door at the same time my date walked in through the front door in his tuxedo.

My mom and grandma were just standing there in the kitchen, crying. It was also too early for my mom to be home from work. I thought someone had died.

My mom said that grandma had burned a small hole in my prom dress while ironing it. She showed me the dress, and the hole was right in the center front, and it was as large as a medium-sized pancake. So then I started crying..."

In this episode of The Storyworth Podcast, our storyteller shares what what it was like growing up in a family of pranksters, along with an epic prank gone wrong.

"Dad grew up in the 1940s. He liked to hide anywhere he could, then jump out and scare his mom. One day he decided he would hide inside the refrigerator. When Grammy pulled open the door, he would really put a scare into her. He thought, won't she be surprised when a small boy comes leaping out of the refrigerator?

Refrigerators in those days had a hard latch which kept the door closed. They couldn't be opened from the inside. One morning before breakfast, Dad climbed inside the refrigerator thinking, 'this is going to be the best prank ever!' He hadn't been inside the fridge for more than a minute when the phone rang.

Grammy picked up the phone. It was a good friend, Ginny. Grammy loved to talk, especially on the phone. The conversation rambled on, first about the war, then about the kids, recipes, gardening, and laundry. Grammy was known to stay on the phone, chatting away for an hour. Minute by minute, Dad began to get colder. And he was thinking, 'Mom, hang up the phone. Mom, please hang up the phone.'

Once his teeth began to chatter and his fingers turned blue, he couldn't wait any longer to surprise his mom. Dad pushed against the refrigerator door. It wouldn't open. He pushed a little harder. It still wouldn't open. Desperate, he began banging on the door from inside the refrigerator. Grammy asked 'what in the world?' and told Ginny 'I'll call you later.' Grammy hung up the phone and pulled open the refrigerator door.

She found a little blue boy inside with icicles under his nose. She asked, 'Bryan, what on earth are you doing inside the refrigerator?'

The cold, scared boy answered, 'I was hungry and looking for something to eat.' Thankfully, Dad never attempted this prank again..."

The holidays are often wrapped in festive, family traditions that are enjoyed year after year. For Charlotte, Christmas meant enjoying her Mom’s baking, a tradition she continues to enjoy with her grandchildren today.

“My Mom loved Christmas so much and it was a time filled with traditions. She would begin baking early. She made a traditional German Christmas cake with Brazil nuts and red and green maraschino cherries and white dough. It was sweet and tasted good.

Mom always used to say, you need lots of butter and sugar to make cakes taste good. She was right. Mom would bake so many kinds of traditional German cookies, most made from ground nuts; there were macaroons, hazelnut slices, and some cookies with names I would have to copy from her cookbook because I can’t even pronounce them!

She put them in cookie tins with a mandarin orange peel inside to keep them soft and stacked them on the shelf in the back hall. We were not supposed to ‘steal’ any but we did. Maybe that’s why she made so many. I still marvel at my Mom’s energy to accomplish all she did during the Christmas season. I still make traditional German cookies but only the favorites. Our children would help when they were little, and sometimes my grandchildren help.”

Thank you to Charlotte for sharing her story. What are some of your favorite holiday customs? Share them in the comments below.

One of our favorite things is hearing how much people loved receiving Storyworth as a gift. And for Kathy it was a gift that kept on giving!

“Our adult kids got me Storyworth for a Christmas gift last year. It has indeed been one of the best gifts ever! I completed 54 stories detailing my family history, life experiences, and stories. I loved how easy it was to use and change questions and the order of stories when I was done writing.

Adding pictures was easy too. The first book I received was of such high quality. I’ve ordered additional books to give to our kids for Christmas this year so the giving has come full circle.”

In this new episode of the Storyworth Podcast, our storyeller shares a tale about the first time she saved up enough money to buy a Christmas present for her parents. The story celebrates the joy of Christmas in Australia, where it's a warm summer holiday perfect for swimming and outdoor picnics. After the story, we speak with the author about her childhood spent exploring the Australian bush:

"My favorite holiday as a child was Christmas. Since we lived in Australia, we celebrated Christmas during the middle of summer holidays, and combining my favorite season with my favorite holiday seemed only natural. December always began in a swelter. Flies stuck to the screen door and the bush hummed with cicadas and the Blue Mountains shimmered sapphire in the heat.

We drowsed through the last week of school, our legs sticking to the chairs while flies buzzed through the open windows. On the last day of school, we chattered excitedly on the bus and then ran home from the bus stop. Not only was the school year over, but we had six weeks to explore the bush-covered foothills and swim in the Nepean River behind our house. And Christmas was only two weeks away."

In the latest episode of the Storyworth Podcast, writer and illustrator Suzi Bevan shares a story about her father, who had a passion for writing poems and a dream of having one featured in The Saturday Evening Post. After numerous rejection slips, Suzi finds a way to honor her dad's passion by surprising him with a gift that honors his love for poetry:

"The year was 1966. I had just given birth to our first daughter, Shel, and Christmas was coming up in four months. My dad had always written poems, and I knew his great hope was to have one featured in the Saturday Evening Post. No matter how clever or funny or poignant his poems were, in due time, there in the mail was a rejection slip. As a joke, he decided to paper his office wall with those rejection slips. He filled that entire wall, but he kept on trying.

At the time, my parents were still living in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and we were living about six hours south in Fredericksburg, Virginia. So we often wrote letters to keep in touch. In one letter, I asked my dad to send me some of his favorite poems, and I would keep them for his first granddaughter so she would know how clever her grandpa was..."

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours.

We hope you have a wonderful day, celebrating with loved ones and creating moments that you will cherish for a lifetime.

In the spirit of the season, we’re grateful to Robin for sharing the story of her first Thanksgiving with her husband, when not everything went exactly to plan…

We hope you enjoy Robin's story, and that you also have a Thanksgiving full of memories (funny, embarrassing, or otherwise) this year as well!

Storyworth A time of reflection for all we are thankful for, Thanksgiving celebrations are a wonderful excuse for loved ones to get together. As family and friends gather around the table, they share more than just a meal. They share stories from days gone by, keep traditions alive, and create new ones.

In this Thanksgiving episode of the Storyworth Podcast, our storyteller shares a touching story about a lifelong friendship that she is endlessly grateful for. She introduces us to Dolores, who came into her life when she most needed a friend. The two were instantly bonded, and remained close for the next forty years.

"My parents enrolled me in Sacred Heart School in the nearside town of Bayside. It was my first day of school. The schools were so crowded that my twin sister had to go to another school in Flushing. So I was totally alone.

Dolores Hickey sat in the front row of Sister Mary Clare's sixth grade classroom. Her bushy red hair parted in the middle and held at bay by two overloaded barrettes at her temples. With a freckled hand and ready smile, she welcomed me to her desk. Schools were crowded in 1948 because of the baby boom. That's why the two of us occupied a bench desk meant for one.

I was the daughter of a career army medical officer, and our family had traveled extensively all of my young life. Dolores was an only child who'd lived in the same house from the time she was born. Her father, Bill, was a salesman, and her mother, Helen, worked for the telephone company. My family lived on the Army base. The Hickeys lived in town. My father thought them beneath us and tried to discourage the friendship. But disparate backgrounds and my father's misguided ego aside, I became a permanent fixture in the Hickey household."
