Customer review: Some of the beautiful, delicious food being served at Gyro Xpress (at Castro & 18th streets) last night. Open late seven nights a week, the fast, friendly service is one of the best values for breakfast, lunch & dinner; dine in or take out, and available through online delivery. The lentil soup with pita bread was amazing. Crispy garlics fries were off the chart! There’s a new, expansive dessert display including house-made baklava. Large beer & wine selection makes this a perfect date spot or dine solo at a window seat for the best view of the bustling rainbow crosswalks.
Yum, yum, YUM! The homemade lentil soup & pita bread is to die for & I tried the new menu item Castro Hummus with browned butter atop the house-made, creamy hummus. Bonterra Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect pairing to cleanse the palate. Dine in or take out, the garlic & lentils will heal your ills!

She fled violence in Turkey & knows NO ONE here in the U.S. Gyro Xpress in the Castro, and friends in the LGBTQ+ & immigrant communities are encouraging any size donation - even $5-$10 - to support transgender asylum seeker from Turkey Diana. If we all give a little, it will help sustain her. Please read her story & consider giving. Thank you.
"Diana is currently seeking safety from transphobic violence and abuse committed by her country and her own family in Turkey.
Diana faced a life-threatening situation at home while dealing with police surveillance and constant fear of prosecution on the street of Istanbul. Her core part of identity, gender, was used as a ground for state and family violence against her.
In seeking refugee as a trans survivor of violence, she managed to move to San Francisco by herself without knowing anyone here for about three months ago. She found Asian Women’s Shelter’s Q***r and Trans Support Program and has been assisted with emergency shelter and transitional housing. Now, she is pursuing asylum in the United States.
As a non-English speaking person, she found a Turkish-speaking attorney who specializes in working with LGBT immigrants from Turkey. This attorney's assistance would be the cornerstone of her stability and safety here so she wouldn't be deported back to her country.
Please support and make financial donations for Diana as generously as possible. If there are any extra amounts left she would like to support her children in Turkey. Any amount will make a difference!!! Please spread the word and share this campaign with friends and family. Thank you."
