The Mohsen Arts Foundation provides aid to Middle Eastern and South Asian students and young people that are interested in pursuing part-time or full-time careers in the arts, but that otherwise are discouraged from doing so because of their socioeconomic background or lack of parental support. ve a gift and passion for the arts, they are often deterred from developing their abilities because of parental and cultural pressures. In particular, the prevalent societal and cultural norms within the Middle East and South Asia push bright and talented youth to pursue careers in medicine or engineering as the only means to be respected or considered successful. As a result, parents from those backgrounds typically discourage children from pursuing their passions in the arts because it would be perceived by others to show weakness, lack of talent, or laziness. This same mentality has been brought by immigrant Middle Eastern and South Asian parents to the United States. Although these societal and cultural norms have existed for several decades in Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures, they are by no means historically grounded. Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures have in fact been responsible for some of the world’s most compelling art. The Mohsen Arts Foundation looks to reverse the trend of the past several decades and open the door to a world that our young people have otherwise been shunned from – art. Our targeted youth demographic are those having backgrounds from Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, the UAE, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Oman, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. We hope to enable young people having those backgrounds to pursue careers and passions that they never thought were feasible. All donations that we receive will directly be donated to students and young people that need the aid for: (i) schooling; (ii) art supplies or other resources; (iii) instruments; (iv) website development; or (v) any item that might be useful to their art.
